I have long suspected that we could get our cell phone bill lower than it is right now without losing out on any of the stuff we use. I was thinking it might actually work better to not all be on the same plan. Right now we are with Verizon and our monthly bill is about $150. This includes DH and I who both have smart phones, and DD's non smart phone. She does not have data and hers is just an extra $10. I believe DH and I are both paying a few dollars for insurance as well. Not sure of the actual numbers but our usage varies. DH uses very few minutes, a smallish amount of data, and lots of texting. I use a moderate amount of minutes, lots of texting, and a fair amount of data. Usually just over one gig a month. DD uses no data, lots of minutes and lots of texting.
I think I am stuck with my plan for now because I just renewed my contract in March. Not sure if DD would be able to stay on with me at the same rate or not, but at $10 that would be ideal. I currently have 2 gigs of data, 700 minutes and unlimited texting. I think the minutes are shared between all phones but I am not positive about that either. DH's contract is over and he has unlimited everything, which I don't think he needs at all, so maybe we have the ability to save some money on his line. Ideally it would be best if he could keep his phone, which is an HTC Droid Incredible.
I think I could easily stay under 1 gig of data if I tried, but I don't know if that would be available as a cheaper option, or if J could switch to it if so.
