Who has one? Who is one? Why would I need one? Can someone convince me why I would need one? I'm sure having one can be beneficial but are they worth the money? I guess if I had more money I'd consider one in addition I feel I'm doing fine with one but maybe I'm missing out on some great insight.

Then go hire one and see how it works out for you.

Some people do not have the time to invest so they choose to hire a financial planner.

    Pretty straight forward.

CFP work with individuals to maximize cash flow, minimize taxes and advise on increasing assets. They are practical to advise/evaluate assets in divorce for example. A lot of staff that work at brokerages have worked through various classifications to successfully complete the course work and exam required to qualify as CFP. I believe there are a couple who are participate on this forum from time to time.

Financial advisors and planners can be good for some people. The big thing is that if you hire one, you need to make sure that YOU make all of the calls.

They should not make any decisions for you- their job is to provide advice, explain why they are making a certain recommendation, and assist in purchasing financial products if necessary. The moment that they forget who the boss is- that is the moment you fire them.

A fairly large portion are just glorified salespeople, while the others are legitimate professionals who work hard for their clients. You want the latter of the two.

A financial professional is NOT a substitute for learning and understanding personal finance yourself. A financial professional should be worth a lot more than what you are paying them.
