I'm not sure if you can apply online but you probably can. Be very, very careful with disability policies. They tend to be quite expensive and very restrictive. You want to be absolutely sure that you are getting own-occupation coverage. In other words, the policy much cover you if you are unable to do your current job. More common is any-occupation coverage so that even if you can't do your job, as long as they determine you are capable of working, they won't pay out. Read every single word of the fine print and make sure you understand it all.
As for the waiting period, that is part of what you determine when you get the policy. 90 days or more is best, which is part of why you should have at least a 3-month emergency fund. The longer you can make the waiting period, the cheaper the policy will be.

* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.
Sean, are you familiar with the federal disability program offered through the Social Security Admin? Is that helpful for your situation? (I'm assuming that you're in the US and paying Social Security taxes.)
EDIT: also, you can apply online.
