As I said we live in NJ. Lots of people moving because of high taxes and if you commute to Phillly for work like I do that adds $25/week for bridge tolls. Add $1300/year for bridge tolls to our $7,000 a year taxes that makes it $8300/year.Originally posted by iliketosavemoney View PostI'm in Central Jersey and I'm hoping to find a place with taxes around 5000/year.
My friend just told me he's trying to move because his taxes are 25000/year!
We are originally from Philly and seriously thinking about moving back. Lots of areas are reviving. Taxes would be 80% of taxes in NJ. Even though Philly had a recent assessment taxes in nice neighborhoods will go up $2,000 tops.

That's IT?Originally posted by rennigade View PostGotta love the fact that you never actually own your property...you are doing nothing but renting it.
Another reason I rent an apartment. Where I live for a $300k home taxes would be approx $3500/year. No thanks.
I looked at the assessor's website for most of the houses on one block in the neighborhood I'm considering, and the houses are assessed at ~129k to ~159k, and property taxes are ~2800 - ~3575, respectively. It hurts to know that I could have a PAID OFF house, and still be paying approx half what I'm paying now in rent. This is a street they don't pave all that well in the snow. But at least the water tastes good...

I don't know how people do it. If I already pay 13,000, and it goes up each year. It's a small salary. It' absolutely crazy!! Although it certainly helps when I'm doing my year end taxes and when I put that number in, it brings my taxes way down. If I don't owe, I usually get some back.
