  • White glove delivery.

That is a big rip off. Why are we accepting that as something special? Should you not be guaranteed that your furniture is delivered without damage and mess because getting your new furniture in brand new condition is a part of buying it?

How did "standard" delivery become "sub-standard" and we have to pay extra for the normal one? (pretty much like good service has become something "extra" and "exceptional", not expected.

Never heard of white glove delivery for furniture? Sounds fake to me.

I've only had "white glove delivery" when buying furniture on-line from Costco many years ago, and it was both "free" (included in the cost of the furniture) and very much "white glove." The delivery people put on booties to cover their shoes, set up, and did not leave until I was 100% satisfied even though it meant having to move the furniture around a bit.

One place I've seen the additional charge for white glove is from places that sell appliances. If you don't pay for white glove or some other upgraded delivery, they have the option of leaving your appliance on the curb. Though IME, the delivery driver is more than willing to help you get the item into your home or garage. With white glove, they will unpack the appliance, install the appliance, make sure it works up to par, tote all the packing materials away, etc. It's probably the same with furniture- the difference of setting it up for you and hauling away any unwanted materials versus just getting them in your house.
