Wow, did everyone see Oprah today, it was called Inside the lives of Americas Poor. That was really scary for me to see, because I could not imagine being on the streets with nothing. Its glad to see that some of these people are able to bounce back. It was really an eye opener to start really saving and being more responsible. Even though Im in college I am still trying to be more frugal and learn to save money. So I am going to be going over all the threads in here like crazy and storing information and asking everyone many questions. But how do all of you feel about todays episode?

Re: Oprah today, anyone catch it?
Wish I had seen it. My father died when I was a child and my mother had never had a job in her life. (women didn't work back then) I think it scared her that we might be homeless some day. She was very frugal and I think it rubbed off on me. I started working and saving when I was 12 and even though I have never had much money, the first thing I learned was this: It is not how much you make that counts, it is how much you keep. Pay yourself first. I always save 10% of whatever we make.

I didn't see Oprah today as I was at work, but I am aware of the unfortunate situations some people live in. I previously worked with homeless teens, who had been kicked out of their houses by their deadbeat parents, and who were still trying to finish HS and work jobs, and deal with trying to get low income apartments through local government programs.

i caught it last night on a re run. stayed up way to late to watch it but it was so interesting and really had me thinking for quite some time about all that i have and how lucky i am and how wasteful i am in my current life. I want that one replayed about once a month to remind me of what i have and what i am working towards.
