We need more information on what kind of education you're looking for.
Undergraduate, graduate?
A BA or MA? Do you want to enroll in campus classes and then take classes online or go through an accredited university that strictly only has online classes?
Possibilities are endless, depends on what you want to do!

If you are considering an advanced degree, an on-line program with an accredited university has a lot of benefits. If you are considering an on-line program as beginning college you must be very very motivated, know the courses you need and understand that most on-line programs are more expensive course-by-course than traditional college. There are a lot of 'for profit' programs that are not from accredited schools. The certificate you get at the end aren't worth anything...it's like a scam. Once you pay, you're on your own unless the accredited school has created a cohort for you with other on-line classmates to work with in teams. There are very specific contact hours with instructors and it's tough luck if the internet goes down or you have technical problems. No one will remind you that papers are due, that certain work must be completed and submitted by a specific date etc. You take on all that responsibility.
What programs are you considering? What school? What costs? What have you done to check them out as valid?
the instructor is available for specific contact hours

Private online colleges are a scam. They are easier to get into, but they are incredibly expensive and their degrees aren't well respected by companies. You want to take online courses from a public college that offers online courses as part of their curriculum.

It is important to ascertain that the online college/university is regionally accredited by one of the nationally recognized accrediting agencies. There are a lot of bogus online colleges/universities, also known as "diploma mills."
The California State University at Dominguez Hills offers an online MBA. http://mbaonline.csudh.edu/

I took an online college course in health unit coordinating or something of that nature. I forgot the exact name but anyway, they sent me a bunch of books and gave me tests on the computer. I felt that it was too easy and that I wasn't actually learning although I was scoring 90-100 on all my tests (medical terminology, insurance, etc.). Anyway, I ended up quitting because I felt that I wasn't really learning for the long term and I realized that I prefer an "in the classroom" setting where I can ask questions, see real life examples, and so on. I'm sure that online colleges can be beneficial to those in industries that do most of their work online like IT for example but for most other jobs, I don't know. Then there are scams and overpriced fees so I have mixed opinions about it.
