I have moved and moved and moved all my life. Generally those moves consisted of getting rid of things that our family could do without, yet there have been several things like one of my favorite books and my diary from my early teen years that have disappeared completely. I would love to know where they are. Hopefully the diary was completely destroyed as I would hate those childish ramblings to come to light with anyone else. So yes, some things I would have held on to if I could have. I suspect one of my favorite books went by the wayside courtesy of my mother on our big family move from CA to PA using a Uhaul truck and a station wagon...period. Some things had to go.
Giving up so many things over and over again throughout my early life has made for a strong desire to hold on to some things for as much as possible. We never can know why someone is so insistent that they can't get rid of something that looks like junk to us but means the world to them.
PS. Hubby says I will never have to move again except to the cemetary
