Back in January, there was Daily Money Saving Challenge regarding auto insurance. I took on that challenge more as a curiosity than to save real money and called three insurance companies. Of three, one was offering coverage at a higher cost, second was cheaper but offered inferior policy and could not offer same policy I had, but the third company offered rate that was $155 cheaper. I did not want to change insurance company because I also had home and life insurance coverage with the company and if I changed, cost of other insurance could go up as I was getting multiple coverage discount. On top of that, I had over 10 years relationship with the agent. My father, who introduced the agent, probably has 20 years relationship going back. As such, I wanted to negotiate with the current agent to see if he would match or do better. I got the cheapest insurer to send me quote in writing and faxed it to my agent and asked if he could match. I called and refunded the difference between what I paid and what the competitor quoted and I got the check today!

I would have stayed with the agent regardless but I am thrilled this worked so well. I have not done any other Daily challenges but I am going to go back to all the ones I have not done and start implementing them. I am so psyched! -

Thats really nice. I actually changed my auto insurance a couple of weeks back. I got 4 different quots from 4 differet companies. Out of that I chose the cheapest one, with the same coverage , but cheaper by 200$ per 6 months. (Total 400$ savings/ year). I'm so happy that I took time to compare and save. this time.Comment

Me three, I went with Costco auto-insurance and its saving me $600/yr that's with one speeding tkt (oops!) on my record.Comment
