Why is it if I choose to subscribe to a thread I don't get a notification sent when there is a new post?

I would think the main reason people subscribe to a thread is so they can get notifications about when it is updated? It just seems silly that one would subscribe to something and the default logic is set to no notifications?

I understand I can go in and manually set it to notify me instantly but would feel it would serve people better if it was defaulted to send notifications...anyone else agree?

No, I don't want to get a notification every time there is a new post. My in box would be flooded. The benefit of subscribing is that when I visit the site, I can click on Control Panel and see what activity there has been in my subscribed threads without having to search through everything and find them myself.

How do I change the notification to instant after the fact the thread has been subscribed to?

        Unsubscribe and resubscribe.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm experiencing something weird: I subscribe to forums, with daily digests of new and updated threads. When I follow the links in those emails, the thread displays for a brief second and then I'm redirected to an error page. "No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator." (Which is what I hope I'm doing by posting this.) I suspect it is something wonky with the SEO settings, because the link is like this:

The URL for the brief second when the thread actually displays is an SEO URL:

And then the redirected URL that yields the error message is:

I've learned to hit "escape" in that brief second to overcome the error, but I suspect others encountering this problem may not think to do so, and consequently may find the forum too annoying to follow.
