  • Vonage Problems?

    Anyone here use Vonage?

If so I have a couple of questions.

It's a much better deal than paying for local and long distance services.

I would use it for international calls some.

    My question is:

I have 5 phones in my house all using the same number. I would have to use the Vonage phone adaptor by hooking it up to my modem. My modem only has an unused USB port (I wonder if thats what I need to connect to my Vonage phone adaptor?). Also, the nice Indian lady on the phone acted as if I could magically hook up all 5 phones to the one Vonage adaptor by hooking it up to my main phone line. I believe that main phone line is outside in a box connected to my house. I don't know how phones are in India, but I don't think she had an idea of how the average American house is set up. All I have is an auxillary line in my computer room. I would probably have to drill a hole in my brick wall and run a line from the outside to the Vonage adaptor.

Does anyone use Vonage and if so do they have multiple phones hooked up? The actual Vonage site said this could be done, but the system won't be covered by warranty if you hook it up to the main line. They suggested cordless hookups and a few other options. The Indian lady on the phone acted like it would be no problem, then pressured me to sign up today for this limited time offer (hurry). I refused until I learn more.

    Re: Vonage Problems?

I have vonage and the only complaint that I have is sometimes the calls are fuzzy. But in my own non scientific way I've determined that fuzzy calls are most common when a hot topic is making internet traffic slow way down. Like when the Pope died, calls were almost impossible because everybody was using the internet to find out information.

I have 4 phones hooked up to my vontage service, not phone lines, but physical phones. Actually you disconnect service from your current provider at the point where it enters your house, and then connect Vonage up. Really simple to do and all the phones, all the jacks in the house, are then connected to Vonage. No you don't have to drill anything, its as simple as unhooking the cord from the jack. Its probably in your utility room. Where does the phone service come to work on your phone if you have a problem? That is where you need to go.

I've also noticed that I much prefer to talk on a hard wired phone versus my cordless for the fuzzy moments, but that might be because my cordless phone is "cheap", I haven't made a connection for that.

Generally speaking, nobody knows I'm not using Bellsouth Service since I made the switch probably over a year now. I have no reservations about recommending them. as far as a special deal.... the deal has been the deal as long as I've had the service. 15.99 or 16.74 with tax for 500 minutes. 24.99 for unlimited. I've never made an international call, but since international calls are included, I don't see how you would be missing.

Now for me... I'm thinking about dumping vonage too, in favor of my cell phone. I RARELY use my home phone, but something about the comfort level of having it, I haven't been able to shake.
