Re: Did any See the Couple in Debt on Oprah

I would be selling 348 of them. But then I wouldn't have that many to start with. I have just two pair and it is all I need. I didn't see the kitchen redo?

Whoever said he is a weak man is right!! I'm sure it started off with her buying smaller things and gradually worked its way up to pianos and cars, and got out of control before he could do anything about it. I wonder if she was always a big spender, prior to getting married.

If the wife doesn't cook, maybe he could consider cooking. I can't imagine he'd put up with her getting a brand new car by her forging his name!! Not to mention buying that house in the first place, when they couldn't afford it...I wonder where they live. Also ridiculous is the fact that they have 5 cars- They can't need more than 2. The woman could have found a used piano in good shape for sale for her daughter.

To bad she dont realize thier are tons of cheap easy meals to cook such as a frozen lasagna for 3.97 at walmart or roman noodles .20 each, or hotdogs $1 throw them on the stove or grill. If I had that much debt thier is no doubt we would be eating roman noodles ALOT!!! at least until we got out of it

Yeah it should be a new thread...

I would think the best redo of Kirstie Alley's kitchen would be to have it disappear..

Back on again today. Didn't get to watch it all, but they mostly worked on the peoples mental issues about money. The show will be back on 2 weeks from today.

I watched it what go to me was the one couple was behind on CS on his daughter. I thought geez wonder how that kid feels after seeing her dad & stepmom buy her sisters over 300 pairs of jeans & new cars. Poor kid I really feel bad for her I guess that hit a sore spot with me because my ex is also always behind on cs however always seems to have money for beer & cigs & his other 2 kids so that hit a nerve with me.

Other than that with the first couple I think they really got threw to them on what the real underlying issues were. Which BTW I think anyone in debt as some issues somewhere else.

JMJJ, so correct. "Regular" over spending is sanctioned here. Living within your means leads to absolute dependence on every single dime of income; living below your means gives the greater satisfaction of being able to handle a gas price increase or a tax withholding increase or a paycut without debt or deprivation.

(Sanctioned is a tough word, has opposite meanings-I mean the allowed, not forbidden definition.)

Its amazing that living at or below your means is *so* not done that its considered alternative and subversive. Kind of fun to be subversive, if you know what I mean.

I don't think EVERYONE in debt has issues. Sometimes things happen. People like those couples are extremes and yes have issues.

They said that the first woman felt so deprived as a kid, that she now thought she had to have everything. Heck, I was deprived when I was a kid, and I went to work and saved my money so i could have something. Back in the old days, we had something called lay a way. That is how I got my clothes for school.
