  • Starting My Own Business?

I am trying to educate myself before jumping the gun because I am quite clueless when it comes to starting the business I want...as far as the legal side of it.

I would like to setup a website, and sell clothing from it. Just a website. I found a website where I can buy wholesale clothing items from China. That's my first question, is it legal to buy clothing from China and sell it in the US? My sales would be limited to the US. Secondly, when you buy clothing items wholesale - does this mean I can put my own "brand-label" on them? Or do I have to obtain some kind of rights to do that?

So to sum it up, I'd like to buy these clothes wholesale from this China manufacturer...but then can I put my own label on them and sell on my own website? I also do not know what taxes/fee's I may have to pay in order to receive the clothing into the U.S. From this website, there is no taxes paid on there.

Even if I didn't launch a business, I'd still like to purchase some clothing for myself off of this website..but what is with the tax and importing to the US deal? There's nothing on the website, it just says it's up to the buyer to find out this information.

    Any help?

You have to deal with the legal issues. May be have to apply for copyright things. But yes, you can do that. Infact I have seen many companies who get the products from different countries (from home country too), put the label and price and sell through it their stores.

It depends on with whom you are doing business. Some companies work only in this model; selling their goods to others, with the brand of the purchaser. In that model, the seller actually produces the item(s) for you, with whatever logo/label/packaging you want.

Other companies will not allow this, or place limits on how, where, and for what price you can sell your rebranded goods. (They don't want to create competition for their own goods across their own retailers.)

I'd contact the supplier, tell them how you would like to operate your business, and find out their terms.
