  • Podcast suggestions?

I'm having a harder time listening to Dave Ramsey. I listen purely for entertainment, sort of financial voyeurism, because it is the only one of the 2 shows on personal finance I know, and I have a long commute. But lately, his rants about Obama and government have become longer and more and more numerous. And religious aspect is kind of annoying.

Any ideas for an interesting financial podcasts? non-financial ones are ok too. Maybe some kind of talk show format shows (with callers)?

    Right now I listen to:

    Real time with Bill Maher
    Decode DC
    This American Life
    Wait, wait, don't tell me
    Freakonomics
    WSJ your money matters

But, as I said, my commute is long, my walk to get lunch is long, and I ran out of new episodes pretty fast and am looking for more interesting podcasts.

    What are your favorites?

I go through spurts of listening to Dave Ramsey. Like you, it is for entertainment as I rarely actually learn anything but it is fun to listen to.

I sometimes get the Suze Orman show podcast. The problem with that is it is a video so runs down the battery faster.

I haven't found any other financial podcasts I like. Most of my podcast listening is Disney-related with the DIS Unplugged.

I'm getting the same way on the Dave Ramsey show... used to really enjoy the show, but I can't stand his rants. I think his head has outgrown his body.

A while back I listened to the Ray Lucia show on podcast, but I'm not sure if that's still going.

This is a decent show. I catch it now and again.

I just recently started listening to the Dave Ramsey show when I get the time just so I remember how "evil" CC's are

Some of the podcasts I listen to regularly are:

          Updated Daily
          Taking Stock - Bloomberg
          Surveillence - Bloomberg
          Motley Fool Money
          Investtalk
          Investing Insights - Morningstar

Updated once or twice a week
          Index Investing Show
          ETF Expert
          S&A Investing Radio
          Disciplined Investor
          The Economist

Of course some are better than others but overall they're not that bad.

Eh, not really. You know I didn't even realize they're all mostly just investing podcasts until you asked.

Some of the Morningstar ones will touch on personal finance topics and they're only about 5 minutes or so long. There's always Vanguard's Plain Talk on Investing and Vanguard's Investment Commentary that occasionaly touch on it but they only put one out about once a month and are about 10 minutes long.

There's also Intelligent Investing with Pam Otten which has some personal financingin it. She's a Dave Ramsey follower and can get a little too heavy on the religion aspect for me sometimes.

The only other personal finance one I can think of is Money Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for a Richer Life. Around 10 minutes, out weekly but a little too "basic" for my needs.

I usually listen to Marketplace Money. Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman I listen to once in awhile. I listen to Suze Orman mostly for the "Can I Afford It" segment. I am always amazed at how out of touch the callers are about what they think they can afford based on their financial situations...

ECON talk is interesting. Description from their site:

"The Library of Economics and Liberty carries a weekly podcast, EconTalk, hosted by Russ Roberts. The talk show features one-on-one discussions with an eclectic mix of authors, professors, Nobel Laureates, entrepreneurs, leaders of charities and businesses, and people on the street. The emphases are on using topical books and the news to illustrate economic principles. Exploring how economics emerges in practice is a primary theme."

I am surprised no one has mentioned Clark Howard. He doesn't update it as religiously (no pun intended) as Dave Ramsey, but his advice is on saving money. If you're paying too much for a cell phone, then I suggest you listen to him.

I used to think that too, until a friend of ours called in. She freely admitted to us that she knew there was no way she could afford what she was asking for. She just thought it would be neat to be on the show.

There are probably a lot of others just like her. They call in just to call in and be on TV. Of course, there are plenty of others who really are clueless.

I guess that makes it a little bit better...

I don't listen to many financial podcasts, but I can recommend the 'Stitcher' app if you want to test drive a lot of podcasts and not download them. You can choose your preferences and then stream a very wide variety of popular and smaller programs alike. It is great when I have a long train ride!
