Clearly you haven't learned a thing from this site.

Its actually a scary thought to think that you would probably run into a burning house to save a pet and leave a child behind, probably even yours if you had/have one. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you do not have children...and if you do they are with the other parent?

We had 2 purebred seal point siamese cats who are brothers. We bought them as kittens from a breeder in California. We will in Seattle, Wa area. At 8 years old one ended up getting cancer. We spent about $2500.00 figuring out exactly what the problem was and the options. When I found out that we could only keep him alive for about 6 to 8 months at the cost of 4 or 5 grand we had him put down. His brother is still going strong.

These cats were an integral part of our family. Our kids are grown and moved out long ago so these guys were our babies. Siamese cats love their humans and they spend hours with us. True lap cats that are indoor only.

But when Junior passes were done with animals. It will just be my wife and I.

I pay for annual checkups and shots, which are starting to get too expensive themselves.

We paid over $4000 to bring our two generic dogs to Dubai, though. I guess that counts as wasted money.

As long as my dogs need it I would spend. But sometimes, I also join and subscribe on free samples for pets found on free sample directories like that of freakyfreddies. I can save somehow but I love my dogs so much that I can't help my self from spending as long as for their health.

I'm in the 'depends on the situation' camp. I'm ok with the cost of premium dog food, neutering costs and updating shots as necessary. Our 1st dog had cancer and by the time we realized there was a problem, our vet laid out options for treatment that sounded ghastly for a 10 y/o Shih Tzu who hated going to the vet. The only way to get an otherwise obedient dog in the door was by using a portable kennel. We kept him home until he became distressed; he passed away as we drove to the vets to have him euthanized.

Just want to say that I found JoshuaKing's post touching and heartwarming. So glad to know there are people like you in the world. I had a dog on whom I spent a LOT when he was ill, and I don't regret it for an instant.

Thank you AnneK. That dog I wrote about has been gone 12 years now and I still ache when I think of him.

                Best to you,

                Joshua

                  Depends.

We had a dog with cancer. First surgery was $400. Cancer returned. Cost was going to be $5,000 on a 12 year old dog and there was a low chance of survival. We opted not to do the second surgery.

My husband says $500 is the limit. I would probably spend more than that.
