I think having an attendant mistake a gold dollar for a quarter says something about the american education system!
But realling I think it is pretty distinctive, trouble is when 'testing' generally people like to keep the 'cool new thing' not use it.

we use dolar coinsd (gold) at ren fests, it just seems to fit the part to have a 'bag of gold' (and you can only carry so many so we only spend so much!)

You won't get an argument from me about the serious lack of personal finance knowledge in high school students and even college students. This is definitely one area where the public schools need to make a change.

I like the idea of treasure hunting. i take all kinds of coins and put them in the sandbox. kids love it!
lostsoul33- yes it is a small world! when Dave and i found out we were having chelsey, they come down and brought me a hawaiin pizza and a cherry cheesecake. was the best i ever had! i went there to pick up daves nephew, and watched mario make some pizzas, right there in front of ya, like subway, and they even had chicken n broc. Gr8 place. By the mcdonalds, theres a full service car wash, i used that whenever i was up there. i couldnt believe it was only 6.75 and for me that was like only four dollars. Is it still there? I havent been there in a while, since i moved to missouri.

I just got this in my email today, thought it was cute. Though not entirly on topic.

The One Dollar Bill

A one dollar bill met a 20 dollar bill and said, "Hey, where've you been? I haven't seen you around here much."

The twenty answered, "I've been hanging out at the casinos, went on a cruise and did the rounds of the ship, back to the United States for awhile, went to a couple of baseball games, to the mall, that kind of stuff. How about you?"

personally - i think the dollars coins are cool and would help lots of people save (especially money jar people, like myself!!)
I remember getting the gold coins from the postoffice and thinking it unusual, but I walked away happy with my four gold coins and the rest quarters... They should bring back the coins... they are too cool!

I like the coins, I think they are a bit more durable than the paper $. They just weigh a lil more

I prefer the idea of a coin. In general though I spend much less when I don't have cash on me; I use debit card for everything, even $1.50 bread thrift store purchases. In Europe I was confused by coins having so much real value, but it was only because I wasn't used to it.
