  • Selling an airline voucher

    Hello Boards,

Here is a question for all of you:

I have a $300.00 voucher for a small airline that was given to me when my flight was delayed about 12 hours. I probably won't be using it since I rarely fly anywhere, preferring to drive. I know that the voucher is transferable (I asked) but can I sell it, and if so where can I sell it, and what percentage would be appropriate? I am thinking of listing it for $225.00.

If I can't legally sell it I may donate it to an organization that could use it, like an animal rescue organization. Any websites that might handle that?

Thank you for any of your ideas.

If it is legally transferable, I'd check ebay. See if similar vouchers are on sale and what price they are bringing.

Ebay/craigslist, also might make a good Christmas gift to someone.

Thank you for the replies. In rereading all the terms in fine print on the back of the certificate, it does say it is transferable, but also that you can't sell it! So I'm wonderfing if I tried to sell it on craigslist/ebay would the airline invalidate the ticket?

Or, is there some charity set up that distributes these tickets to needy people that I could donate too?

I could use the money myself but if I can't sell it I'd like it to go to a good use.

I'm not suggesting you do this but just telling you how others do this.

People sell vouchers like this all the time on ebay. I've bought Marriott vouchers several times. How do they get around the rule? They don't sell the voucher. They run an auction for a brand new shipping envelope. And by the way, winner of the auction will also receive a free $50 Marriott voucher.

I have purchased airline vouchers like Disney Steve discusses...or I should say I bought the envelope that it arrived in. I had no problem

              Hi Disneysteve and Chrisburke21,

That is a VERY helpful reply. I am going to use it. I hate to see this voucher go to waste, someone can get a real deal, and I can get some extra money.

              Best,
              Josh
