  • If you like iphones

can you give me a general idea of what an iphone 4, 16gb might be worth after the iphone 5 arrives?

A friend is upgrading and wants to sell hers at that time. It is NOT the 4s.

I am considering purchasing it for a family member.

What do you think is a fair price? It is in very gently used condition.

    Thanks,

    Dawn

My daughter sold her iPhone 4 when she got her iPhone 4S. She got the 4S when it first came out, and her iPhone was practically in brand new condition. I think she only got like $50 or $100 for it. She sold it to a friend for a "great deal," though.

I looked on ebay, and it appears that an unlocked phone goes for no less than $200, and a carrier-specific phone goes for $100 to $150.

So, is your phone locked or not? Also, the daughter's phone was sold when the 4S came out. Now that the 5 is coming out, I'd expect all the prices above to decline. Wait two weeks and look on eBay for the going rate, then decide what/how much to pay.

An iPhone 4 8GB is free with a new contract so I'd say the value of a used one is pretty limited. The only advantage is you don't need to start a new contract, and it is 16GB. I'm guessing no more than $25 tops. Personally, I wouldn't even pay that. If I were going to make a change, I'd rather get the brand new 4 for free or a 4S 16GBfor $89 and take the contract, and that price may drop lower once the 5 is out. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 4S at $49 at that point, making the 4 almost worthless.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

Anyone who wants to upgrade to the iphone 5 I would be happy to buy their iphone 4 8gb for $25...heck I'd even give them $50.

The reason being is I would unlock them right off the bat. That way I could go to other carriers that do not have monthly contracts and activate the phone through them. Right now I've been looking at one carrier that offers unlimited text, data, and 300 min a month for $35. Of course theres taxes and fees...after all said and done it would still be under $45/month to use an iphone.

Even with the rush of people selling their iphone 4's and 4's...you'd be lucky to find one under $150 that hasnt been stolen or completely beat to hell.

I pay $60 for unlimited everything for my iphone...even if I bought an iphone 4 for $150 assuming after fees the plan above is $45/month...I would recoop the cost of the phone in 10 months. Then it would be $15 less per month than I was previously paying. Not a lot of money but ever bit helps.

It really depends on the condition and the (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) carrier her iPhone but tell her to try the link below:

Sell iPhone 4 and iPhone 4 Trade In | Gazelle

If the iPhone is in flawless condition she could probably get around $100 if her phone is with a carrier and around $200 unlocked.

So? It's under $45/month for me to use my iPhone too and I'm with AT&T.

$10 to add the phone to my family plan.
$15 for data (not unlimited but more than enough)
$4 for unlimited texting ($20 total for 5 phones so $4 each)

That comes to $29 plus taxes and fees. Even if you take the $25 data plan that's still only $39.

The only way it is really costly if you are by yourself. As long as there are a few of you, the cost is pretty reasonable. Anybody can be on your family plan. We have 5 people in 3 different households in 2 states.

As I expected, now that the iPhone 5 is out, the price on the 4S has dropped to $99 and the 4 has dropped to $0.99. What would I pay for a used 4? Nothing. I'd get a brand new one for a dollar.

For those that want a 2 year contract, yes, this is a great deal. You underestimate the value and what can be done with an iphone...even without a plan. Calls can still be received/made without a plan not to mention a lot of other valuable things...and of course even more can be done with a plan.

My offer still stands...if anyone wants to sell me their iphone 4 for $50 ill be glad to buy, send me a PM.

Brand new GSM without a contract is $450.

iPhone 4 - Buy iPhone 4 Unlocked or for AT&T, Verizon or Sprint - Apple Store (U.S.)

I put little faith in the used phones being sold on Amazon and such (and I like Amazon). Seems like a quick way to buy a stolen phone, a water damaged phone or a phone with a dead factory. If there was a good way to buy used phones online I'd be interested to hear it.

We always get a new Apple product when it comes out and often cell the old one on ebay.
I am amazed at how well the value holds.

After using an ipad for 2 years we easily get 50% of its cost back and it sells quick, so upgrading, is overall, not so expensive. Similar situation for iphone, maybe a little less, about 40%-45% of the original (without the contract) price, if in mint condition.

You are forgetting the value of not being in a contract (which is currently about $450).

One thing is for sure,if upgrading would cost you more than buying another then it would be better to purchase.

I am not seeing those rates or even close to those rates for a cell plan with ATT.

I am with Straight Talk and do NOT want a 2 year contract.

I think I also talk and text much more than you do.

Are you saying you pay less than $100 for 5 phones on the plan? Or are you saying you SPLIT the cost? I don't have that option. My kids are still young, DH gets his phone through work, and my parents only need a PAYG plan as they use about 5 min. per month and only want to pay the $3/mo they are paying.
