  • I got scammed from a fake shoe website

So I ordered these shoes online from Rios Shoes.com...then a few days later after noticing I didn't receive any tracking info/receipt/confirmation of purchase, I googled the site and found out they are a scam. I feel a little embarrassed because I've never been scammed before...

Anyways, I am wondering how to get my money back? I immediately filed a claim with my bank (Wells Fargo) and they said I had to wait 15 days to see if I receive the item. So I check my PayPal account and the company updates the item as sent with a tracking number...I check USPS and the item is coming in an "envelope" which isn't surprising, seeing as though I read online that the company is known to send a SHOWERCAP in place of the shoes people order.

I wonder if this is their way of trying to claim they actually sent the item purchased.

You may be able to get your cash back, but it makes a good case for using a credit card for online purchases. You have the ability to dispute the charges in instances like this. I've never dealt with Paypal, so I'm not sure what the policies are for a case like this. I'm sure there is some recourse since, unfortunately, this type of thing is all too common. Good luck.

My girlfriend was also scammed by a fake shoe website. Apparently there are a lot of fake shoe sites around. They had designer brands on sale at ridiculously low prices, which should have been the first clue. The second clue was when she saw a charge appear on her credit card online for the amount, which was greater than the cost of the shoes she purchased because it included the currency conversion fee, since the charge was made by some company in China. There was no indication anywhere on the site that the company was in China, and there was no phone number or address provided to contact them. It was clearly a scam, so my girlfriend immediately called her credit card company and reported a fraudulent charge. They send her a form, which she had to complete and send back to them. They also told her that it will take from a month two months to conduct an investigation, but she was not required to pay the amount in question and immediately credited it back. They said if the investigation determines that the charge was not fraudulent, then it would be added back to her credit card balance. Of course, they found that it was a fraud, so it never got added back.

I'm sorry this happen to you, if the item doesn't come I recommend you visit Wells Fargo and speak with a manager and either do a charge back if it were a credit card or similar for a debit. I find that stick with big brands online helps to reduce scams.

That's a bummer. I always use Zappos. Incredible cheap and reliable.

So...I got my showercap in the mail the other day

Which made me even more mad than if I wouldn't have gotten anything....makes me wanna send them something in the mail they don't want

Of course PayPal has closed the case because the 'seller' put in a tracking number associated with the shipment, so to PayPal it looks like I got the item I ordered.

It seems to me like the item you purchased probably had a description.. like.. "SHOE".. and the tracking code provided probably did also like.. "SMALL ENVELOPE NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR SHOE".. can PayPal really not put this together?

Edit: after more thought I bet you filed the dispute too early, looking like you were trying to reverse scam before your "shoe" even arrived. I bet if you waited til after you got your envelope and disputed that you received a shower cap instead, they would have actually investigated. Just a thought! Wells Fargo are good people you'll probably get your moneys back from them anyhow!

If you found about it a little late, whether or not you will be held liable for the charges will mainly depend on your bank. Some banks will conduct their own investigation which would take about a month or two and if they see that it was really a fraudulent transaction, then they will not charge you with anything. However, there are some banks which will charge you for not reporting the transaction as fraudulent right away.

Yeah.. This statement is right, I was once a victim of a scam, I do report it to my bank but they couldn't solve it, the fact that the transaction was successfully done already... They couldn't do anything about it... What we can do is be safe next time and get reliable company that can be trusted...

                        I'm Sorry

I'm sorry that happened to you. You can at least think of it as a good learning experience. At least it was with shoes, and not something bigger.

I know someone who was really frugal, and purchased a speaker system from a guy in a gas station parking lot (I know it sounds stupid, LOL, the guy is really normally level-headed, which just shows it happens to the best of us). The speakers retail for over $1000.00. The guy selling them said he needed the money for groceries. My friend bought them. The speakers inside were just knock-offs. The good thing is even knock-offs were worth money, and the speakers actually were decent, LOL.

I like to shop at Zappos.com too. They are not the cheapest (not expensive either), but their policy is awesome. You can send anything back, and they will pay return postage and all. It's pretty risk free.

This is why you pay with a credit card.

paypal case is closed, they will not rule in your favor no matter what. Your last hope now is WF, who is under no obligation to return your money out of their pockets. Your money is GONE, they may refund you money as a courtesy.

                              New Balance: Fake or not?

hey, i recently bought New Balance Backpack 574 shoes (red, for women). i haven't got them yet, but i did pay already! After doing some research, i discovered a site with fake New Balance shoes, and the ones on the picture there, are the same ones on the picture that i've bought. After buying the shoes (in size 39), i got an e-mail from the site i bought them on that i succeeded the payment. In that mail was written that i had bought the shoes in size 36. i'm excited to see what i'll get delivered in a week! but i will first send you a picture of the ones i've bought, and a picture of the shoes where i'm almost certain of that they're real..
