I guess I need to go into dealerships and try some out. There are so many big vehicles out there. Congrats on your baby living large. I just don't want to trade up and realize "Hey this isn't much better, and now number 2 is on the way and this won't work."(not sure on that one yet)
    I sorta like jeeps. lol

I've always been bewildered by how people choose their cars since it's the 2nd most expensive item we buy other than condo/house. No one seems to add in the cost of the loan [interest+fee], insurance and operating costs which are variable.

It's important to figure out what type of vehicle meets your needs and what features are important to your specific circumstances. Why not do a bit of research like Consumer's, Lemon Aid and reviews offered by existing owners on internet? People who buy a car because they like the color or believe in status [my LA relatives believe they're judged by their car] or accept the salesman's spiel as gospel...make me giggle. Keep in mind salesmen need to meet their quota as the end of each month nears. Before going to a dealership/lot/seller it's important to investigate car loans with your bank and a Credit Union who may give you a better rate than the Dealership. Finally get valuations from Kelly Blue/Black book to arm yourself with knowledge. I also like Carfax if I feel unsure about history.

If you want a 'beater' spend an entertaining couple of hours at the Car Auctions in your community it's a terrific learning experience. Likewise have at least an internet look at cars being sold privately. There are terrific deals from lease-backs if you're interested in avoiding high level depreciation.

George: Need more information to make any suggestion... what brand and model car did you choose 1 1/2 years ago? Why did you buy it? What is making you unhappy with it? Are you finding the payments too high for your income? Is it too expensive to operate [gas/oil/repair/ insurance]? Is it the wrong type? Do you need a truck but have a car? Is it two door and you need 4 doors?
