  • Tip on buying shoes

I work in shoes, whenever you buy the pair that have been on display always ask for a discount, if they don't give you 10% off for being on display, don't buy them go somewhere else or insist on the discount. Stores are allowed to give 10%off especially on shoes the light fades the leather and all the hand oil from people handling them and trying them on.

Stores like Wal-mart, K-mart, Target, etc... that have the all the shoes out on the racks there is no display because all the shoes are the display. Now if the shoe looks dirty don't hesitate to insist on 10% off

On the Athletic shoes if one shoe is displayed and all the others are in the boxes still then you should get the 10% off for being the display.

Sometimes with certain employees you have to be persistant, but don't give up ask for a manager.

I always wait for a sale somewhere before I go to buy shoes. I always go in the afternoon as my foot seems to be larger as the day goes on.

Priceplus, I had the funniest image. You said your foot gets larger as the day wears on, so I pictured you with one normal foot, and one swollen, throbbing comic book foot.

If you do in fact have only one foot, I should stop finding this funny.

Has anyone used this tip yet to get a discount on their shoe purchase?

Yep -- tried it today at DSW Warehouse. Didn't work.

The cashier was totally confused when I asked if I could get a discount because my shoes had been on display. She responded, "Uuuuhhhhh... We don't give discounts on shoes that are on display in this store." Honestly, she looked completely flabbergasted by my question, like I had asked her to give them to me for free or something!

                      Oh well.

I don't need to do that because I buy shoes in Dillards 90% off. By the time I purchase my shoes there are no displays left. My shoes are always the last pair left in the style.

The strangest thing is that men's shoes last so much longer than women's shoes. I brought a pair 90% off at Dillards about 3.5 years ago. I wear them every single day. They still look brand new.
