  • House Question

Does anyone have experience with buying a house that has been moved off its original foundation and relocated to another lot? I'm not talking about a manufactured home or a mobile home, but a stick-built house that was moved. Obviously one would need a very good home inspection done, but aside from that, what are some of the things you need to watch out for? I'm assuming settling or shifting and cracks along the foundation.

The house appears to be in really good shape and if I hadn't been told it was moved I would never have suspected. It is selling for about $80,000 less than comparable homes in the neighborhood. I'm just wondering if it's worth the extra possible things that could go wrong.

Assuming they did a good job moving it, then it should be fine. Some settling is inevitable and may lead to cracks in the drywall and/or foundation. But, that can be repaired fairly inexpensively.

Okay, thanks. It really seems like a sound house and it is right in the perfect neighborhood but no one else is serious about it because it's been moved. We'll take a look at it.

Consider getting a housing warranty to cover defects for up to a year after you buy the home. But be sure of what the warranty covers, and what any deductibles or visit fees are involved.

A housing warranty? I thought you could only get those on new construction.

It might be, that this house is made from constructions, that can be dismantled and moved wherever you go. If it's like that I can see no problems with moving it.
