Wonderful....we are getting auditted. Seems the IRS thinks we donated too much. I'm not really worried, as we have receipts for everything.

Our donations including offerings and thithes to church, donations to 4H, Scouts and Church camp, building and lawn materials and tools bought during a couple of missions trips-that were left with the organization we were voluntering under, services (I taught some classes that I normally charge for free, and provided the members of the class with free books and supplies), donations of clothing and food to the pantry, donations to a few scholarship funds and milage and fuel, and we paid directly to a non-for-profit monies that they were instructed to pass to a certain family or individuals utility and college tution.

Seems we donated more than I make, so that sent up a red flag (we mainly live off of my husbands earnings.)

Also, the IRS doesn't seem to like the fact that I allowed my renters to continue to live in my house for a few months without paying rent after the husband lost his job (he has since gained employment and is paying again)-but how do you kick out a family with kids at Christmas time??

I've not been through an audit before. Any advice?? I have already been told only provide them with copies, not orginals, and to send everything registered mail.

    So much for being generous

I haven't been through an audit but good luck. I'm sure since you have all your paperwork you'll be fine.

Contact an enrolled agent in your area to give you advice or to represent you. Good luck - remember ... give unto Ceaser what is Ceasars, but not a penny more!

I survived an audit 5 or so years ago. It was my fault because I messed up my Schedule D. I called the office in my area, followed directions, and got back to them promptly. I was cleared with no further problems. There's hope
