How long to keep tax returns?

I know this has been asked before but I couldn't find it in search. I have a great opportunity to clean out my closets and get some shredding done by the company that shreds for my job but I can't remember if the recommendation is 7 years or 10 years.

I think I normally hear 7 years. Personally, I keep all of my tax records digitally, so I don't see a reason not to keep them indefinitely... Memory space is cheap.

I have heard 7 years, as that's as far back as the IRS can audit you.

I thought 7 years also but then I heard that they could audit you up to 10 years. As it turns out, I have stuff dating back to 1990. I can't wait to get rid of that junk.
