I've noticed the higher prices too.........but, can still find a good deal on the 50% off colored tags.
I've been taking advantage of my local freecycle group (4000+) and only pay the gas to pick up the items. Takes longer, but I don't really NEED anything these days.

They are kind of like garage sales to me, I am afraid I am going to buy something and I don't need any more "stuff"

            Re: Thrift Stores!!!

i have a mini notebook, three for a dollar at dollar tree. in it i have all! i have stuff like, masterbdrm, 6 outlets, one single switch one pull switch and two double switches that dont take plates, the plate button and all is one. this page includes my master bath, walk in closet and bedroom. i have a jaquizzi and stand up shower. i have its measurements cause i would love to switch out the door at least so its lighter inside. then i have a page for my kitchen and every room in my house, measuring even the floor space in each item so that if i find carpet or linoleum and all, that im totally covered in knowing what i need. i also have a page for all my kids sizes in everything. this also makes it easier for my mom, i can copy that off to her and shes kept up to date. i also have a box in my van, that has cheap dollar store batteries of all sizes and a universal plug. i can check anything that catches my eye. i also have my dvd plug already in the car too, so i can use that to plug things in the lighter. i got a good tip off here tho, i didnt have a screwdriver but do now. i bought one at the dollar tree that has a bundle of different tips. i also keep couple cheesy crackers and bottles of water back there for road side emergencys. it dont take much space, the book is always in my purse actually and the kit i made is in a well of the back end.

              Re: Thrift Stores!!!

If the goodwills and sally stores seriously wanted to help poor families by selling the donations to them, then they would have serious limits upon the amount of items one could purchase each visit.

They don't care about poor people.

All they are is a clearing house for people who want to flip the well-made and/or designer items on Ebay, so I won't even go to them anymore.

In my area, each of these stores is very different, so it seems that pricing must be done by each store.

The last time I went was almost 8 years ago and when I saw that even cheesy worn out sweaters were 5-9 bucks, I simply left and never went back.

If they think that their donated designer clothing are so VALUABLE, then they should immediately cull them and leave the items that do enter the store racks at reasonable prices for the poor.

                Re: Thrift Stores!!!

I shop thrift stores for clothes - they are usually pretty dirt cheap.

I have noticed the Goodwill stores around here have some pretty pricey furniture. The stuff isn't that nice and most of the time I think I could find NEW furniture cheaper. I have always thought that in passing. I guess it depends on what you are shopping for.

                  Re: Thrift Stores!!!

and here i was feeling all alone seeing all the good deals some people find at thrift stores... Goodwill stores here in the islands are quite high priced... you can occasionally find a deal but you have to be lucky and have good timing... wedding dresses, even the ones that have yellowed, start at $100... evening dresses start at $20... shoes could be $5, $10 or more... and the clothing is just as bad... salvation army is a little better but there aren't any near where we live and it isn't worth driving out to one...

thankfully we have other options that are more convenient and cheaper...
I can go right down the street to ROSS here and find better deals, especially with clearance for items i need to buy new (underwear and such)... and across the street from the mall, where ROSS is, is the swap meet and you can find some good deals there too... and let's not forget my favorite... garage sales
