This week has been a busy one, with something going on all day and every evening. After church today was the first time I had a chance to get Easter candy without having kids with me. I did well, as the store, which is normally open till 10 p.m., was only open 12-5 today as it was Easter. When I went into town at 4:45, all Easter products were 75% off. I spent around $4 and got enough for my kiddos today and my daycare kiddos tomorrow.

Good for you.
It always amuses me when the "holiday" candy gets marked down so drastically right after the holiday as if it isn't any good anymore. On December 26, they slash the prices on the Christmas candy and the next day, fill the shelves with the very same candies now packaged for Valentine's Day at full price. I'm sure there are a lot of frugal folks out there who give their Valentine marked down Christmas chocolates.

I go shopping the day after every major holiday. Today I hope to pick up some candy and egg decoration kits. The kits are for next year, but the candy is for me.
I did want to run some errands last night and wondered if the candy would have already been marked down. I didn't end up going.
I am literally waiting for Walgreens to open - they don't open for another 5 minutes - it is on my way to work. If I wait until 5:00 they get cleared out pretty good.

I work part time in retail. The best days to buy holiday related items are just after the holiday is over. Everything from candy to decorations will be 50 to 75% off just a few days after the holiday is over. You can get Xmas trees for $35 and strings of lights for a few dollars. Candy ends up at 90% off.Brian

When I was actively selling on ebay, I used to hit the stores after the holidays all the time, especially Christmas. I would pick up Hallmark limited edition ornaments for 75% off and sell them the following fall. I would also buy other holiday items at sharp markdowns, sometimes 90% off, and resell them. Going to the outlet stores was particularly good as stuff that was already at a reduced price was selling for pennies on the dollar.Steve

I bought candy canes after Christmas, $0.15 for a dozen, and set them in a window. I guess that is a humid area. Sometime later I noticed the candy canes were deliquescing. There's no way to get them out of their wrappers now.
I'll probably stop by a store today and see what is in their clearance area. Little doo-dads like spring theme pens and note paper would be nice. Actually, I could use a big basket if I could find a sturdy one.Last edited by Joan.of.the.Arch; 04-09-2012, 05:30 PM."There is some ontological doubt as to whether it may even be possible in principle to nail down these things in the universe we're given to study." --text msg from my kid

A thought for those of you stocking up on left over Easter candy: This is the season for roasted Peeps and Mini Cadbury Carmel Eggs!
You take a Peep and roast it over a fire on a stick, like you would a normal marshmallow. Let the sugar caramelize, but try not to catch it on fire. When you take the Peep off the stick, there should be a little hole just perfect for inserting a Mini Cadbury Carmel Egg. Insert the egg, and let the chocolate egg melt a bit while the Peep cools so that you won't burn your tongue. Enjoy!
I came up with the idea of roasting Peeps a couple of years ago when I wanted to roast marshmallows but only had Peeps in the house. My husband discovered that the eggs fit inside perfectly, but they're actually good with or without the eggs. It's an awesome treat if you like sugar and playing with fire.
