  • Do you do that to your co-workers?

Why does this always happen to me no matter where I work?

When I'm covering for someone who is out for vacation or sick leave, or whatever, I try hard to make sure that they do not come back to a pile on their desk. I do as much as possible, because I know it is not fun to return to a pile.

When I'm out, whoever is covering will do what needs to be done at that moment, and the rest is in a pile wating for me. That happens with more than one co-worker. I always return to a pile.

Sorry you came back to a mess. Did you have fun at Disney? Did you get a chance to see the special topiaries at EPCOT for the Flower and Garden show? I just got back from WDW yesterday--it was plenty hot (I try to go before it gets so hot) and the crowds were starting to build up for spring break, but we still had a great time.

Most people aren't that conscientious. They do the least amount they can do to get by and no more. And they certainly don't go out of their way to do someone else's work. Sad but true.

Keep taking the high road at work - and in life. Do what is right, not just what is easy. It'll pay off somewhere down the road, probably when you least expect it.

I deal with the same thing at my job. Most people are self serving and don't worry too much about someone else's work. It's not all their fault though. With the high unemloyment rate a lot of companies have leaned down. People are now doing the work of what 2 or even 3 people used to do. So, a lot of people are simply too busy to take on additional work.

I hate that so much. One of my major pet peeve's. In my corporate work experience I found that a lot of people will just do enough to "get by". Fly under the radar. Individuals like yourself show tremendous leadership in going above and beyond.

I remember when I was the bank, I had to sometimes cover for my manager. I completed his job and mine. In return he would never help me out one bit. I wish there were more people like you working.

After awhile you get to know which of your co-workers are competent and willing to work and those that are there just to skate by and do the least amount of work possible.

Where I work there are a number of people who could cover my area when I'm out and I can cover others' when they're out. I just hope that I get someone that's conscientious. I don't by any means expect to come back and have everything done the exact way I would have done it, but I'd like to not come back to a complete disaster either. I try to leave my area as well-stocked and up-to-date as possible before I leave.

On the other hand, I have some co-workers who know they're going to be out and blatantly leave all the work to whoever is filling in. In that instance I tend to do as my mama always said and "leave things the way you found them". If you leave me a total mess, that's pretty much what you're going to come back to. I'm not going to go out of my way to totally clean up your area when I know you're not willing to do it yourself (although I do find myself doing more than I probably should). That may seem like the wrong attitude to have but over the years I've come to know some people's motives and I'm not falling for it.

              Are you quoting Dumbledore?

From: Albus Dumbledore (Character) - Quotes

Dumbledore: No spell can reawaken the dead, Harry. I trust you know that. Dark and difficult times lie ahead. Soon we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.

The same thing always happens to me. I just stopped worrying about it. When I return from vacation, I expect to have a huge backlog of work, and I just figure I will get back on track after a week or so. I don't stress about it anymore. It hasn't stopped me from doing a good job when I cover for someone else. I just keep remembering that I am way better than them!
