  • Cheap prepaid phone plans?

Alright everyone. We are ditching the iPhones! Finally! Some of you have been telling me to do this since day one when my username was uRabbit. Now, we finally are. We see the light!

Anyways. It is looking as though AT&T's GoPhone plans are the cheapest. Unlimited text and 250 minutes for $25 for two phones for $50/mo.

    Anyone know any cheaper?

I just purchased minutes on Tracfone for 6.5 cents per minute. This was with the use of a long ago purchased 50% discount for life. I never text or get on internet (Oops, except by accident!) and honestly I've forgotten how the charges for those work.

But 250 minutes at 6.5 cents per minute would be $16.25.

However even if you do no more comparison shopping and choose the GoPhone plan, you will be really saving a lot over your present plan!

We are excited, Joan. The wife's iPhone already sold. Only $150, but it is three years old.

But AT&T may make us fork up a few hundred bucks.

Another tracfone customer here. I spend about $7/month.

Best option will depend on how you use your phone. I use mine fairly rarely; maybe 10 conversations a month, and very rarely text.

I'm getting ready to come back to the USA this summer, so I was looking into cell phone plans again... I compared mostly between the prepaid plan mentioned by OP for $25/mo (unlimited text, 250 min, $.10/min extra) from AT&T, and Virgin Mobile's $35/mo prepaid plan (unlimited text & data, 300 minutes, $.10/min extra). I looked at some others, but nothing else really stuck out to me.

I actually have digital copies of about 2 years of cell phone statements, so I figured out which plan would be best for me based on my usage for each month. For reference, I averaged about 320min & 180 texts per month overall, with max figures about double that, and min usage about half. So generally, statistically consistent.

I found AT&T's $25/mo plan to be my best bet, and what I'm going to go with once I get back stateside. This is partly because I almost never use data, and I'm really not all that interested in having a pocket-sized ball and chain (a.k.a. Google-machine, a.k.a. smartphone). More significantly, the unlimited texting will be awesome, because probably half of my calls are less than 2-3 minutes, so most of those can be switched over to texts, which would reduce the chance of me going over the 250 minute mark (no big deal if I do though -- $25/mo for a perfectly-fitting cell phone plan is SWEET! So $.10/min for what little I may go over is insignificant IMO)

All of that said, if you like to use data on your cellphone, the Virgin Mobile plans are excellent.

Trac phone is fairly cheap, especially if you get the lifetime double minute phone.

I have recently seen triple minute phones from Tracfone. I'm not sure the details on these plans, but that may be the cheapest option.

My advice is to go for something that does what you need it to do. Call and text :P
