POLL: How much do you spend on food?

First, how much do you spend eating out? Then, how much do you spend on groceries (include even the gum/mints you might buy at the check-out line). I'm thinking categor
izing as below:

Based on my Quicken reports, for eating out, we've been averaging $145/month over 3 years, but last year we did horribly - we averaged $211/month over 2005.

for groceries, we averaged $270/month over 2005. For all dates, we averaged $308/month (we've only been shopping at Aldi for 2 years, so I think this is reflected in the cheaper monthly bills over the past year).

Secondly, this is for a family of 4, 2 kids aged 3 and 8.

Does anyone know how to create a real poll on this website?

I make myself eat at home, with the exception of CJ's trip to McDonald's for his Happy Meal twice a month. I could only imagine what I spent eating out in the old days.

Well for eating out we probably eat out way too much but I try to go cheap when we do we go to the $5 pizza place or subway & get 2 big subs & split them up & we always take the food home so thiers no drinks or like chips & cookies at subway or something. But for the grocery bill at home we are spending too much I think. I am not the greatest cook in the world & if I was I think we could cut the bill tremendously but we also have 3 kids who are eating us out of house & home. I could learn to cook from scratch we would be alot better off.

We have 2 dogs but thier food isnt much at all.

eating out I actually tend to go twice in one month then skip the next, no big purchases, I we want to cut out the others, they are all accedents .

We don't go out to eat with all the kids. It just costs too much. We get paid every other week, and dh and I try to go out on the weekends we get paid. Sometimes it it just to our local pizza/sandwich shop($11-15 depending on what we order) and once in awhile we go to a nicer place like On The Borders or Carlos O Kellys. At On The Borders, we often split their Club quesadillas since one plate is more than either of us can eat. Doing this keeps the cost way down and allows us to enjoy great food at one of our favorite places. Carlos o Kelly's has a huge sampler platter that is easy to split too. We don't always do that, but we're always so proud of ourselves when we do!

When I'm working 60+ hours a week, my eating out (which is probably 80% at work) goes up to about $150/month. Under those conditions I find it really difficult to even make time to go grocery shopping so I can pack lunches. And then I work till 8 or 9 at night, and I end up getting dinner at work too, because I'm so hungry and know I have no food at home anyway. When I'm working a normal schedule, it's probably about $40/month.
