I haven't read this Dave Bach book yet but I do like his advice and his style of writing. He writes a column on yahoo finance that you might want to check out as well.

The average social security check for a retired woman is $663 a month. That is less than $8000 a year to live on. Certainly not enough.

I haven't read the book, but i tend to steer clear of books with titles like this becus they seem to emphasize basic things they assume women in particular dont' know. I guess the only exception where gender-specific advice would be useful would be perhaps guidance on divorce law and estate law, since women tend to outlive men and often need support in terms of child support since they usually get the koids.

But overall, women can benefit from the same financial advice as men can.
