  • What is your plan for retirement?

What is your plan for retirement? What investments are you making to secure your retirement? Do you think you'll have enough to retire or will you need to keep working?

Me, I am saving as much as I can along with getting out of debt and staying there. I also am proceeding under the premise that there will no Social Security for me at retirement. I have a Roth IRA, some mutual funds, stocks, ETF's, bonds, and precious metals. I am working on improving my emergency fund for retirement as well.

My plan is to pay off house this year before my bday in which I will be 30 after that every month the house payment goes into safe return investments & maybe rental property after like 5 yrs of saving. That way I have a safe return but it will be more that is what I am hoping also work until I cant work anymore even if its just something small ya know.

Save, and save in a number of different vehicles: 403 B with employer match, traditional IRA, I-bonds, cash. I try to buy assets, instead of liabilities, so I do have dividend paying stock.

I have a little bit of debt but its payment to get healthier and more physically fit, which I consider buying an asset. Its going to cost money to stay healthy in retirement, but it'll sure be cheaper than getting sick.

I plan to buy a house eventually, but real estate is not my cup of tea. I consider a house a place to live in not an investment vehicle.

My plan for retirement is to not retire at all!

I have a traditional IRA and a 401k from a previous employer. My emergency fund is established and now have my own health insurance HSA plan (HSA paying 4%) that will cover medical bills for Wee CJ and I.

Next will be investment in a primary residence and perhaps partial ownership in a business. But until my intuition gives me the get go, I will keep all my funds liquid in CD's for now.

I plan on making as much money as I can, saving as much as I can in diversified investments, including rental real estate. I'll contribute to the match, etc. for my employer 401(k), but I'd really like to build a business from scratch, then sell it.

My combined investments (both tax-deferred and taxable) total about $330K.

My house, valued at about $400K, has a $87K mortgage left on it.

I hope to marry my BF next year (it would be a first-time marriage at age 46 for me, it's about time, right?), pool our resources and continue working for another 10 years, then continue doing my p/t freelance work for another 10 years beyond that. BF wants to retire at age 60, and together we'll play golf, kayak and travel happily ever after.

Nearly all my investments are in mutual funds with a well-known fund family. About 80% equities, 20% bonds and cash. I think I'm in pretty decent shape, but would really feel comfortable if I coudl retire with a million dollars. Alone, I couldn't do it, but we're already there if we pool our $$ together.

I have invested in mutual funds and some stocks. I tried rental properties and that was a diaster. I wound up selling the houses for less than I paid for them. The tennents tore them up. My husband has always been self employed, so we have no 401s, but we both have IRA's. We have never been high paid ( I have never made more than minimum wage) but I always saved 10% of what I made. I paid off our house when I was 32 and have never had a mortgage since. My only debt is my car and some land I am buying that is already worth more than I paid for it.
Right now I am keeping a lot of cash in the bank. My husband is building spec houses and I am paying for everything as we go. We have sold all our spec houses before they are finished and I just put the profit back into the next house. I hope that will give us enough cash to retire some day.

Pension from job of 26 years (and counting), some savings, 403b and part time mystery shopping is my current expectation. The part time job may change as I get older, but I see myself doing something for pay for many more years.

I think my husband will have to work for at least 10 more years. Actually, I don't ever see him quitting work, he is a workaholic!
