  • What if your household expenses were $10,000 per month?

I was talking with a family member today who announced I don't understand why you try to live so cheaply..Our household expenses are $10,000 per month and that doesn't count our business expenses.

Now they own an auto repair shop just a run of the mill place....I almost threw up when she said "10,000 a month!!"

But instead the conversation went something like this..

"well do you have enough money saved up to cover those expenses if the business goes under?

her reply "no but thats not going to happen..."

Do you have life insurance in case your husband dies and can't run the business?

    No

Do you have enough money to cover your expenses until you could sell the business?

    No

Well I am glad its you paying out 10,000 a month and not me....."

And Here I am worried about paying of my car early....

10,000? I am not sure I could spend that much each month, I would run out of time to spend!

I'm with Princess. What can you spend $10,000 on in a month? You'd have to shop all day with no time work.

        Montly payments-

$1800 is house payment she told me that
then theres the motorcycles, the cars (4), the beach house....and she said she spends at least $600-$700 per weekend just shopping....

Personally I'd save it all and retire really really early

Good grief! $10,0000 a month?!?!?!?!? Wow! My husband and I don't bring in that kind of income per month (and we both work). I can't imagine spending $10,000 a month! What in the world are they buying?????

I have a feeling they're going to regret that kind of spending some day.

Goodness....Where do you live and how large is your home? In Alabama where I'm from, a $2600/mo house note equates to (approximately) a $400,000 - $550,000 home---we're talking brand new McMansion, somewhere between 2500 and 4000 sqft, 4-5 bedrooms (including nice size master suite with his/her walk-in closets and maybe even a sitting area) and 3-4 bathrooms, a half-bath or two, 1 or 2 bonus rooms, the best materials (granite countertops, tile flooring, expensive carpet, etc), 2-3 car garage, covered patio, formal living and dining areas in addition to family room and casual dining area...

I could spend $10k per month - for how long I don't know, but I'm sure I could manage it for quite a while.

I would save it and retire early, too. New houses in our area are going for 450,000 too. We are lucky we bought 5 years ago...220,000 house is now worth 370,000!

In my area 1000sq-ft town-homes are going for $500k, you can't even touch a house for under $800k

                            Sorry for getting off-topic.
