Payday?

We keep a pretty big cushion for regular expenses, so payday doesn't affect our spending patterns. We usually move some money into several savings accounts right after payday.
I get paid on the 1st and 15th of every month. DW gets paid bi-weekly on Fridays. It is pretty exciting when we the paydays align because the amounts moved into savings can get pretty big. Saving that much money is exciting.

I am pretty notorious for not knowing when payday is. People would ask if I got my check yet, and my usual response was, "oh... I don't know. when was payday?" If you've got a good enough EF in place, you don't really need the paycheck as much. I've been known to go a couple months without checking my bank account.
So do I get excited about payday? Nope. I still don't even know when I get paidI know it's every 2 weeks, but I'd have to check when the last one was.

I'm not living paycheck to paycheck but I get pretty excited on payday. I get paid bi-weekly and I'm always logging into my account the day after to transfer my regular amount of savings to my savings account.I then look at how much I had in my bank prior to getting paid (Amounts that I have set aside to use the previously weeks but hadn't), and usually can make an additional/extra contribution to my savings.

I wouldn't say I get excited about paychecks, but I do get a little excited to see if the markets are going to go up or down. I want the markets to go up up up except on every other Tuesday when my retirement money is invested, then I would prefer it to go down, but just that day!

YES! I get excited each and every payday even though it mostly all goes into savings.
It is one part of my job of which I never tire,
After I retire, it will be just one check a month and I am confident that I will find my new pay date equally exciting!

My MIL works at a place that pays weekly and she has been pushing for years for the boss to switch to biweekly (she's the bookkeeper). His response is that he once tried to switch and lots of employees complained that they couldn't afford to go 1 week without a check during the transition. Pretty sad when you think about it.Steve

My employer also provides pay data 3 days prior to the actual payday which I look forward to almost as much as payday. My paycheck is never the same amount unless I am on leave, so it is always interesting to me as to how much my upcoming check is going to be.

I don't know of anyone who gets paid weekly here (it must be very rare but I'm sure it exists in Canada). Seems a bit excessive to me (I'm also my company's accountant/payroll person). It is typically either biweekly or semi-monthly here. I've also worked for a company that paid monthly. I didn't mind that either. Every 2 weeks or twice a month seems often enough to me.

Working in payroll, I learned it's nowhere near as much fun to get paid when YOU are the person responsible for making this happen. It's also not a lot of fun to hand out pay stubs to folks who clearly overextend themselves - I get more grunts and "why bother, it's already gone" than thank yous. Just not a fun bunch when it comes to payroll around here!
That said, I do look forward to sitting down each Saturday morning to see what I can do with my money - save more, pay down debts, etc. I do kinda enjoy paying bills as well. This is not the first time I would admit being strange. I have enough money to cover my bills though, that makes a big difference.
