hi,
Remember the movie with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. This is the way of nature, small and knowledgeable stores and owners got moved out of the business by the giant book stores that sell large quantities and can maintain lower prices .
Now the online giants will move the super bookstores out of the way.Because they can sell even more and drive the cost lower.
Tomorrow someone else is going to change the game even further....
Borders made their profits when they were in their prime, but they failed to realize the market is shifting and instead of adapting or innovating , they just kept buying more stores... Now their reserves are spent and they will have to leave the game.
I am sorry for them and for their employees, hope they would be able to apply their skills in other jobs.
Meanwhile the above can be said for the entire US nation. Companies are outsourcing the jobs to other countries to save money , they are even moving most of their departments overseas to maximize profits.
while this is good for them and drives their product costs down , eventually this will impoverish most of the US families as the remaining (local) businesses are keeping the wages down to be able to"compete" and the numbers of "earners" are going down.
As a next step probably some citizens will need to move overseas to be able to afford to live....
It looks like USA is becoming some kind of an economic trap or a disaster ....
