Re: How can I get out of debt while on SSI?

The people here will support you and try to give suggestions, but you're going to have to do it yourself. It's not going to be easy, but it can be done if you want. Is there a food bank or place that serves free meals in your area? If so, you need to begin taking advantage of this.

You also need to find a solution of not being able to earn money.

What is the exact amount you lose for earning? We need a table to see.

Ok..First, my payday loans are reaccuring.Which mean each month I have to pay them. And because I don't earn the money to pay them off I have to reborrow to pay them.Second, I don't have any friends at least none I could stay with and my family disowned me-don't ask why becasuse I don't even know why.Third my credit is worse then my debt.At least with my debt I have options. My credit will never be something I can fix on my present income and needs. Finally I have no assets of value that I could sell or obtain a credit loan on.That is why I have asked you guys for your thoughts.Because I have no other solution.I have tried everything you can think of except giving up...................

Stop paying the payday loans and use the money for what you really need.

Ok..I think I already did this but here it is again:

I earn 840.00 a month on social security disability
I owe 1,700.00 aproximate in payday loans that I have to constantly repay every month because in order to pay them I have to reborrow.I have rent.I have utiltiys and of course I must eat.So you can see, by breaking it down, right there the problem.

I could do that.I could do that and lose my account because my bank would charge over draft fees and bounced check fees. And since I am paid through direct deposit I would have no way to collect my SSI.And I know from past experience that once you mess up your bank account no bank will open you a new account for a very long time.

Talk with your utility company before they turn off the power...many have programs for those on low incomes that may help

Open a new account at another bank...have the money direct deposited there. Close your current bank account.

Is your payday loan with your current bank?

I could stop paying the payday loans.I could also lose my bank account and any chance of opening a new bank acount in the process.I have had that problem before. And now the stakes are higher because now I get direct deposit through my SSI payments.Without a bank account it could make trouble for me that I don't need considering I am already in serious debt. But as I have said, I have considered all of these suggestions.I was hoping for a new idea. One that involved getting money fast and legal to get this debt out of the way of me having any knid of worry free life.

They don't exist. If someone claims to have a system, then it's a scam. You got yourself into this debt and you will have to work your way out of it.

                          I haven't seen a budget posted yet.

What is your rent, mortgage etc?

Use your local charities-food kitchens etc

Payday loans are terrible and unless you start selling stuff your probably going to be stuck in this rut.

People don't donate on the web to complete strangers.

If you have web designing skills, use that and create a website-it is called affiliate marketing. Do a search online for ideas.

Are you sure that you cannot earn anything beyond what you receive in SSI payments? According to SSA, you can earn up to $590/month ($620 in 2006) before triggering a 9-month trial work period. (Link)

Also, I agree with the suggestion to go into local charity offices to ask for help. (United Way, etc) The help may be a one-time thing, but it's something.

Does your state have a "circuit breaker"? In Illinois, people with low income qualify for help with utility bills, prescription medications, and car registration fees.

I have a friend on ssi she also does demos at walmart with me once in awhile could you do some type of side work like that she can earn so much before it hurts her ssi, thiers easier things too like merchandising, mysteryshopping, maybe cleaning houses, I dont know your disability but I am sure thier is something you can even do surveys online & make money. Could you apply for foodstamps? Could you move to a cheaper place? You can also do testdrives I make about $50 a month doing 1 a month takes 2 mins. Thiers tons of info online to do this stuff. The only one who can help you is you if you have the will thier will be a way. Of course like I said I dont know your disability but if you are online you can take surveys for money & gcs & stuff. Also check into heating assistance I think you will qualify they give your electric company a 1 time lump sum.
