  • Cyber Monday or Black Friday

I just read that there is now a thing called Cyber Monday. I guess the people who coined Black Friday --- the day after Thanksgiving, when retailers are supposed to turn a profit and get into the black --- have named the Monday after Thanksgiving "Cyber Monday".

I guess what happens is that everyone returns to work on Monday after Thanksgiving and spends most of the day surfing fro great deals on the Internet just like they shopped in regular stores on Friday. I guess that many online stores are beginning to offer extra discounts on this day to attract even more customers.

My question is which do you think will give better deals? Shopping in a regular store on Black Friday or shopping online on Cyber Monday?

I have seen the previews on line for the b&m stores and so far I am not impressed. I have gone the past two years early but this year I am leaning more towards not.

I think the better deals will happen on BF. The problem is stores have limited quantities of items, so you have to get there early and be aggressive to get the good deals.

The past few years I have been disappointed by the BF sales as well, but from what I'm reading it appears they're kicking it up a few notches.

I would much prefer Cyber Monday, simply because I wouldn't have to deal with aggressive shoppers. One year a woman hip-checked my mother and knocked her to the ground in order to get at some stupid table clearance. After that, we both vowed never again. And no, the woman did not apologize.

Sorry to hear, kashi. BF is definitely not for everyone. I don't even spend that much, but I do enjoy hunting for major bargains and being where the action is.

I love black Friday. It is one of my favorite times of the year. Every year I make notes in my calendar for the come up year so that I know what I liked best about each store. I can hardly wait until Friday! I've been thinking about it for two months now.

I've never heard of cyber Monday and my oldest daughter actually works part time during Christmas season for a major electronics company. I'll have to ask her about it.

Cyber Monday & Black Friday are simply ploys by multinational corporations to manipulate people into spending money on non-essentials that most people neither want nor need.

The real sale prices don't start until next Jan/Feb when this year's merchandise has it's prices slashed 75% - 90%.

I doubt that "Cyber Monday" will have a long lifetime, as most workplaces do not like having their employees surfing the web making purchases all day long on any day of the year.
