  • Job position opportunity question.. Need your advice

Scenario Current just position is under PRN(when needed etc) So sometimes i reach 40hrs per week and sometimes im nto needed so I usually only do 16 or maybe nothing at all.. Let's just say the Rate is 25 bucks an hr for this Position.

An opportunity comes up . 2 - 16 hr shifts.. sat and sun giving me guaranteed 32 hrs a week but at a lesser pay lets say 20 bucks an hr but with benefits(insurance, pto, etc) But with weekend adn evening diff.. it adds a/b ~4 bucks so.. a/b 24 bucks

with those 2 scenario, its pro and cons are there. Would you take your weekends away and work 2 - 16 hr shift back to back and go for the part time job over the PRN?

    It depends.

Does the PRN have benefits 100% of the time (ie whether or not the hours reach 40/week) or do you have a SO who provides benefits to you?

Age and energy level and family limits or outside tasks/interests might impact my decision, as it should also imapct yours.

It does not sound like the financial aspects work into this decision?

If you are asking us to choose one or the other, I could very well have answered either way depending on the time in my life that this situation was presented to me.

Your decision however needs to be made by you.

Only you can determine your needs both in work and in "play" (i.e. your free time away from work). Look at your life as a whole and then determine which path to take.

As a single w/no family obligations these days I would MUCH prefer the Sat/Sun 16 hr shifts. That would likely give me enough $$ to live on (and it sounds like you too)while leaving me free to pick up other PT jobs as I wished, go to school or just do what I needed to do during regular business hours.

Many years ago I had a friend who worked rotating schedule in retail at a 20 hr/day, 7days a weeek, 365 days/year. Her boss dedided he would be 'nice' and give her Sat instead of the Wed she had for years as her always off day each week. She found she HATED it. Took her 2x as long to see the dentist, get an oil change, get her hair cut/nails done............And the lines to check out her shopping were WAAAAY longer. She requested her Wed. back.
