  • So are gas prices this week going up or down?

Okay, so I had a discussion with my spouse last night where I was told I should go fill up on gas since prices are going UP in our area. I was trying to hold out (I have almost a half tank left) until they go DOWN. I was hoping that prices would continue to trend downward, despite the usually high-priced month of July rapidly approaching.

How are they doing in your area? DO you think prices will not continue to drop as we enter July, even if only because it is usually one of the most expensive months for gas?

They're still going down for us. Average last week was $3.70/gal now it's more like $3.65/gal

I just saw a headline on yahoo finance that Obama released some of the strategic reserves, so i think they will go down.

        Geez louise you are tight.

So if gas moves $.05/gallon either way in a week, which is a sizable movement, then you are looking at $1 difference for 20 gallons.

Go fill up your car and not worry about it. Why would you change your plans or risk incoveniencing yourself for just a $1?

that's correct. because of this release, crude oil prices fell down and it closed at February level just above $90 per barrel.

The oil released has not been refined and there is currently no more refining capacity. The USD is higher because the European Union is weak. They are meeting in Brussels to try to find a solution to Greece before Portugal, Spain, Ireland default.

With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, they are going down!

I saw gas at $3.52 today so I'd say it's going down here.

I completely agree. Sure, I hate seeing the price of gas higher than I'd like, but it's an expense that is requisite for my daily life. And as wincrasher said, price swings may seem significant, but when most cars only fill up with 12-18 gallons, it's only a difference of $1-$2 on the total bill. So hopefully a $.10 price change (max $10/mo increase in costs) is completely manageable, albeit a bit annoying.

Bottom line: don't worry about it. Fill up when you need to fill up.
