When people pay cash for a car, definitely he's rich and not afraid to be robbed. I usually write a check or pay using debit or credit card.

i would much rather pay for a car in cash just to see the look on the salesman face.

Paying with a check for a large purchase like a car is always safer than paying in cash.

a car is a depreciating asset. If you take a loan out to buy a car that is a form of bad debt. If you have the cash to buy a car with out a loan you should do it.

I buy my vehicles privately, and yes I use actual cash. I don't pay more than about $5-7K for a vehicle though.

I paid cash for a used Subaru from a dealer back in '99. I had a SAAB that had broken down 1 too many times I wanted to trade in, and $8000 in my pocket. I wanted to appeal to the salesman's sense of greed and making a quick sale, so I made my offer and showed him the envelope full of bills in my pocket. He went to see his manager, and I got my deal. Turned out to be a great car, too- most reliable, cheapest to keep car I ever had.
