I actually just bought something from groupon yesterday. $4 movie tickets from fandango. I was planning on going to the movies this weekend anyways, so it was awesome! Otherwise, I'm subscribed to groupon, but I never really buy anything from them.

Okay. That didn't take long. I just bought my first Groupon offer. I paid $6 for a $12 coupon for Elevation Burger, a new place in our area. I've been wanting to try it and just haven't gotten over there yet. Now we have a nice discount ($6 off) to give it a try.Steve

I mostly just check sites like slickdeals. Sometimes there are groupons in a particular city, like dallas, that can be useful for someone in any city, like 2 for 1 AMC movie tickets, or gift cards to a popular chain. I would never see these offers if it wasn't for a community site like slickdeals.

Very true. As always, it isn't a good deal if you didn't need the item.Originally posted by woodie96 View PostI think these, like many other offers, are great deals if you were already in the market for the items.
Most of the offers I've seen so far are of no use to me. Even though I filled out their profile indication my interests, I'm getting many offers that don't match those interests at all (spa treatments and such). I'm also getting a lot of offers that aren't local to me. I don't consider a place that is 45-60 minutes away to be local. Maybe for a travel destination but not for a restaurant or other routine type of place.Steve

I agree with your first post Steve. It only encourages more spending. Neither site really helps you save money. You can find better coupons elsewhere that do NOT involve spending money upfront. I can't tell you how many of my friends have bought "Groupons" and lost them/didn't use them/or whatever.Originally posted by disneysteve View PostI checked out Groupon for a little while soon after I got my iPhone but I never saw a single offer that was of any use to us. I think this may be a service that does little more than encourage people to overspend on a "great" deal.
ETA: I just looked at today's deals in my area. There are 14 offers and not one that I care about. I guess if you were planning on doing one of those things anyway, it could save you a few dollars but I can't see it being that useful overall. Checking it every day seems like it would waste more time than it is worth.
Stay away from these sites!
