  • DSL providers?

    Who provides your DSL service?
How much does it cost per month?
    How is their customer service?
    Are they Mac-friendly?
Any deals or promotions going on right now?

    I need help!

    Thanks.

    Re: DSL providers?

We have the basic Yahoo!/SBC DSL package for $14.95/mo - for the first year. No idea on the service, never had to call them since I setup everything myself.

However, I don't think you have too many options in this because it depends on which telephone company serves your area. So if its Verizon then you're stuck with them, if its South Bell you're stuck with them. Sometimes AOL, Earthlink, Yahoo will collaborate and offer a package through your phone company in which case your calls might be answered by Earthlink, Yahoo etc..not sure on this one though.

Regarding MACs, I don't see why you couldn't hook up a MAC to any DSL/cable service it as long as it has an Ethernet network card and TCP/IP installed (all machines built in the last 5yrs should have both).

Basically, you need a modem (or a router if you want multiple machines on the Internet) which usually comes as part of the package - and often free of charge. The modem (or router) connects to your phone/cable line and then your computer will connect to the modem via the Ethernet card.

There is STARBAND.com as an option.

,Since they offer higher prices, and have little exposure.. i am very puzzled on how they plan to stay in business..

Any internet provider should work fine with a MAC.

Yeah, Verizon and others WORK with a Mac, but do they have adequate tech support? That's the question....

              Re: DSL providers?

Verizon is our DSL provider at work. Service is down quite often, therefore, I would approach the Verizon DSL with little expectations.
