Unfortunately, there is no short-cut for shopping your car insurance and getting a good rate.

Rates vary a lot between companies, and there is no company that has the lowest rate for everyone. The last time I shopped my auto insurance -- I do it every year -- the highest quote was double the amount of the lowest quote.

You can use the link in my signature to get quotes and research insurance companies. I'm an ex auto insurance agent. You can e-mail me through my web site if you want some help.

If your car is a reflection of your income and assets, I recommend you contact a few agents, including independent agents, to review your insurance needs. You want to make sure you have sufficient coverage without any gaps that may come as an unpleasant surprise to you if you have a claim. If you have assets, even if it is just a good income, you need to protect them.

A good agent will review each coverage, let you know about limitations and exclusions, ask you questions to find out your needs, suggest different options, and let you decide what you need.

Don't have a knee-jerk reaction that you are just getting a sales pitch, but don't buy any costly insurance recommendations without doing your own research and getting at least a second opinion.
