Whys Is It.....

that the upper rack and the lower rack of the dishwasher NEVER fill up at the same time?

Also, this week it is the upper not quite full. Last week it was the lower. It is never, consistantly the same rack.

Same problem in our house. It tends to go based on how much we're running around. When we are not so busy and doing more home cooking, the bottom fills up with plates and silverware. When we are on the go and eating out too much, the top fills with glasses and bowls but not many plates on the bottom.

This drives me up the wall!! To make matters worse, my pots and pans are not dishwasher safe - so I really don't have a lot of stuff for the bottom rack in the first place.

Yeah, I can understand the irritation... When I lived in teh states and had a dishwasher I just always filled it no matter what to save water!!! I would put cups on the bottom and bowls on teh top if I had to!!! Then that way it both racks fill at once!!! I have gona back in time though since moving and no longer have a dishwasher.... I hand wash everything - but ti keeps everything clean!!!

I am currently unemployed and eat/cook ALL my meals at home. Generally, I hand wash my pots & pans just because they either do not fit or take up too much space. Just before I run it I may put in a fry pan or 9 x 13 pan IF there is space available. Thus, these things do not usually impact on how full a rack becomes.

This is the universe's way of beckoning you to cook fish filets in your dishwasher, as was advocated in the late 1970's. I think the advocates may all have been dishwasher repair people, but I always wished I knew someone who would try it.

Wrap & seal the fish well in aluminum foil to prevent your fish from becoming soggy. Choose oily cold-water fish to maximize your omega-3 fatty acid intake. Place packet on your empty dishwasher rack and balance with empty plates if necessary. Then let'er wash!

If you use citric acid crystals in your machine to make your glasses sparkle, you may lightly sprinkle some on the fish after cooking for a bright, lemony seasoning. It will be important not to put your citric acid crystals inside the packet at cooking time as citric acid and aluminum will react, making holes in your fish packet and fish will be slung all over your dishes.

After eating, smooth foil, anchor it with forks, and run it through the next load to wash and save foil for unheard of aluminum foil savings. Up $0.13, depending on how big your filet was.



Okay, now. Please, if there is any doubt, I am just joking.

I think you can wash some ballcaps and other things in there. Never tried but worth a shot.

I guess I have sort of figgured it out, somewhat, for my life right now.

Some weeks I do a BIG cooking day. The mixing bowls and food processor bowl do end up 1/2 filling the bottom rack.

I visit my Dad 2-3x/week. I go over his lunch time and bring mine with. I often do a salad plat in a plastic storage container. Two of those fill 1/4 of my top rack.

I actually don't have this problem. Like khosta said - so bowls go on the top and cups go on the bottom if need be.

We usually have enough dishes to run everything daily. We just cram everything in however we can, and wash. Most of the really big items we just hand wash if there isn't any room.
