    What do you do?
    Where did you graduate?
    GPA?
    What degree did you earn?
    starting salary and current salary?

And the most inportant, Do you enjoy your job?

If you are uncomfortable discussing any of these it is perfectly fine. I am currently in college and am still looking to what field I want to go in. I know what degrees it takes to make a very desirable salary; but why work somewhere you hate and takes away from family. Any information you can give would be much appreciated. God bless and have a wonderfull day.

I LOVE MY JOB! Which is SOOOOOOOOOOO Hard for me! I have always wanted to be Self-Employed Entreprenuer Type and I just cannot seem to motivate myself enough to be Self-Employed. I LOVE MY JOB TOO MUCH! My Bosses and Co-Workers are just awesome. I have pretty decent Pay, I have Benefits and TONS Of PERKS. The ONLY thing I don't like is my hours!
I work a split shift and it is sooooooooo hard because I pretty much work 7-7pm....

I don't mind speaking of these things at all Please note, however, that I am first and foremost a mum to my CJ. That is my number one job that I would not trade for anything.

Outside of being CJ's mum, I am as follows:

What do you do? Paralegal - Will Litigation, Trust LItigation and Probate

Where did you graduate? - University of Florida, Gainesville, United States

      GPA? - 3.9

What degree did you earn? - Pre Law and Paralegal Certificate (Nov 2005)

Starting and current salary? - As a entry level legal assistant USD $10 per hour. As an entry level paralegal it ranges from USD $50 - 55K yearly. ( Not bad, but also not much considering the trmendous responsibilities)

And the most inportant, Do you enjoy your job? I love it! And I adore the idea that we help out those who were cheated out of their rightful inheritances by unscrupulous, nasty relatives.

I have a degree in Speech Pathology/Audiology from WVU. I, however, am a predominantly stay at home mom who works part time as an aide in a preschool, making $7.24 an hour. But...I LOVE my job and the people I work with.

What degree did you earn? B.S. Aviation Management
starting salary and current salary? 40K (starting in 1999) 65K (today)

And the most inportant, Do you enjoy your job?

I do enjoy my job, however, I would discourage most students from entering the IT field these days, as there is far too much offshore outsourcing going on in this field to make a long career out of it.

Re: Do you enjoy your job?

My answers wouldn't help you, because I live in Central America, but, I DO know this:
choose something you love!....I have worked at a company where I earned a lot more money than what I'm currently making, but where I was so miserable, I even ended up in the hospital with migraine attacks...I'm making a lot less now, and it IS difficult, but, I enjoy my work, I feel very motivated, love the people I work with (for the most part!)...I recently went to a b-day party for someone that works at the old company and, it was great seeing them all, and, despite the fact that I probably was the person making the least $$ at the table, hearing their tales of misery at work made me feel blessed!!

Well right now I work pt on the weekends I make $12 an hour I am not sure I like it but I need the money & it works into my schedule for now with the kids still being small. I went to a community college for early childhood education thinking about starting a preschool waiting for my middled daughter to have her surgery next week then I will start looking more into it.

Where did you graduate? overpriced, small private college

What degree did you earn? BA in Music and Spanish, and a minor in beerology

Starting salary and current salary? $27.5K at my last job, $33K at my new job - definitely not reflective of the overpriced college education or the loans I'll be paying back forever

And the most important, Do you enjoy your job? I am happier now that I switched jobs, because I'm one step closer to being an editor. Unfortunately I didn't major in English, and now I'm kicking myself for it. I still think I'll eventually get to where I want to be, though..it will just take longer.

Re: Do you enjoy your job?

Sorry but I am going to give you my cynical viewpoint.
It is hard to make a good decision on careers because in corporate America over the past several years Upper level management and boards of directors have started changing the rules mid-game. IT is not the only profession being outsourced to foriegn countries for cheaper labor. I find it interesting that President Bush encourages outsourcing and says we are going to get better jobs for americans. First who is he to decide what is a better job for you or me. Second most of the newly created jobs I see lately are in the service sector and pay around $7 a hour. You can't support a Family or even a single person in most cities for that.

As for the answers to your question
I have some college no degree.
I am a flight attendant for a major airline, currently in bankruptcy.
I make about $30,000 a year and I am at the top of the payscale. I could increase my flying hours and make about $40000. I started at around 17,000 a year 15 years ago.

I used to absolutely love my job. Now, this is a loaded question. 95% of the time I love the crew I work with. The working with people on the plane I still enjoy about 70 % of the time. With long security lines, long customer service lines, less (or no) amenities and less flight attendant staffing many a customer is disgruntled so we are dealing with more problem resolution. I used to love to talk to and serve customers, now with the limited staffing there is not usually time for that. It is throw a drink and coctail snack at you and move to the next person. We work long hours with minimal rest and may cross several time zones. Frankly we're tired, our feet hurt, and we miss the way it used to be. I admit I was spoiled by what I considered to be the best job in the world for many years but it no longer exists.
Anyway I guess I kind of made this a long story but the short of it is, as long as you are working for someone else there are no guarentees that what you get upon graduation is what you will have somewhere down the line.

I am very glad you posed this question because I need to a new career, However with the exception of stay at home mom(and I did that for 8 years and my youngest child is 18) nothing listed so far even remotely appeals to me. I hope people will keep the list going.
Thanks for the thread and sorry again for the negativity

Re: Do you enjoy your job?

What do you do? PT Service Coordinator for people with developmental disabilities (State of NY job) - 20 to 25 hours per week, PT real estate agent - anywhere from 0 to 10 hours per week
Where did you graduate? Le Moyne College, Syracuse NY
                              GPA? 3.9
What degree did you earn? Sociology with a concentration in Human Services
starting salary and current salary? I earned $15,500 at my first job in a shelter, then about $20k in my next job (both non-profits). Now I work for the state and would be making $35k+ if I worked full-time. I pull in anywhere from $5-10k a year doing real estate.

And the most inportant, Do you enjoy your job? I call my real estate my "fun" job and my other job is for the benefits (right now DH is a student so we need the health insurance, plus the other benefits are great too). I wouldn't say I love my job, but I don't hate it either. It could be a lot worse (and it was when I worked in a shelter in a very bad, bad part of the city). I work only during the week, no holidays, a good amount of time off, and I really like the people I work with, so those factors go a long way. Real estate is a lot more fun, but there are absolutely no benefits, no base salary, etc. so it is a very hard way to raise a family.
