Just wanted to share and show my appreciation, I was puting tile up in my kitchen and had some funny shapes to trim around the electrical outlets, etc. Couldn't do it with the tile nippers so I went in to ask the guy that works in flooring. He said they have a machine that does the difficult cuts, just mark the tiles and bring them in and they would trim them for free.

Home Depot and Lowe's both offer free cutting for certain things like tile, glass and lumbar. There may be a limit to how many cuts you can get for free - can't bring in 100 tiles for them to cut - but I've bought lumbar and had them cut it for me a couple of times.

yea I always knew about the lumber, that machine is huge and obvious. The tile machine is kinda out of the way and not so obvious. When i did my floors a couple yrs ago, (before lowes was built here) Home depot did not have a way to cut tile and only wanted to sell me a tile cutter that i'd never use again. (wall tiles vs floor tiles= different cutter). I had to go to a local place then and they had a floor tile cutter I could rent.

So anyway Lowes cut like 35 tiles for me that the nippers couldn't do. About 25 were because the last row needed a 1/4 in off an the nippers couldn't do that small amt.

We built living room bookshelves some years ago and had the store do all the cuts! Easy-peasy. I was just thinking today about adding some crown and other detail to the shelves and figured I could have them make most of the cuts again. I doubt if I could have them do the mitered cuts.

I've put a lot of tile down in my house and what I have found works better than any of the tools they sell at HD, Lowes is a diamond blade saw on a grinder.. You cut from the back and it's quick and solves all cutting issues. The only problem is that it's my neighbors and I keep borrowing it. I can't tell you how many ideas I tried from those stores and none of them worked..

That's great when large corporations keep traditions like helping out with cuts, advice etc. and not just trying to upsell you. It's good to know even with the advent of supermegastores, we still have places like this willing to help out. (for free)

probably wouldn't sell so much tile to the diy-ers if we had to buy a $200 cutter to cut a .16 tile So its good business for them.
