  • What's in your wallet?

No, this isn't a Capital One commercial. A post in another thread made me wonder what people carry in their wallets besides money. So pull out your wallet or purse and tell us what you have in there.

    I've got:

    Driver's license
    Health insurance card
    Red Cross blood donor card
    AAA card
    State physician's license
Auto registration cards for both cars
Access card for the door to our synagogue
TWIC government ID card (homeland security thing for access to ports)
    Marriott Visa
    Chase Visa
    Discover
    BOA ATM card
Wawa gift card (use to buy gas)
Rewards card from local restaurant I frequent
Casino rewards card from the one I go to most frequently
Player strategy guides for video poker and blackjack for those casino visits

My wallet is bigger than I'd like it to be, so it tends to carry a lot:

    Insurance card
    yogurt shop card
    CPR card
    Shoe store rewards card
    Home inspectors business card
Macy's CC (and we don't have one here!)
    Dick's rewards card
Carnival card (and it's been nearly 2 years since our cruise!)
    Blockbuster card x2
    library card
    Receipts
    Expired Sears gift card
    yogurt rewards card
    hair dresser card
    A stamp
    JC Penny gift card
    Driver's license
    Military ID
    Primary CC
    Debit Card
    3 checks
    Olive garden gift card
NY&Co rewards card (which they no longer use)
Anthropology card (no clue what this is for)
    Ring warranty card
    Pet smart rewards card

Guess it's time to clean some of this stuff out!

Both Dick's and PetSmart have keytags that you can use instead of a full credit card size card. I know because I have both of them on my keyring.

And gift cards don't expire so that Sears card is probably still good. Call the 800 number and check the balance.

For the Dicks card, you can also get a small barcode sticker that can be placed on the back of any other credit card. I have this on the back of my Citi card, so I don't need the keyring OR the full size credit card.

        In my wallet:
        1. Note from my wife written in a high-school chemistry class 8 years ago, folded in the shape of a heart
        2. A 1961 "cinco peso" dollar bill (honeymoon souvenir from 2 years ago)
        3. Old college ID card that still gets me "student" discounts even though I haven't been in school for about 4 years now
        4. Building access card for work
        5. Meal cards for work cafeteria and favorite local pub
        6. Insurance Cards
        7. Emergency business card stash
        8. Credit/debit cards (Wachovia, Citi, AMEX)

I used to carry a larger wallet with a full checkbook, family photos, etc., but I dropped that as check-writing became more and more obsolete.

          I'll play.

          Driving License
          Library card
          Borders Rewards card
          Barnes and Noble card
          Pacific Science Center membership card
          Kmart/Sears/Land's End reward card
          Athletic Club ID card
          AAA Card
          BoA World Points Master Card
          Costco Membership card
Costco Amex card (with cash back for gas purchases)

I do have several reward club cards for grocery, electronics, beauty supply, drug and office stores, but I don't carry them. If I am going to that store I will take it out of the drawer and add it to my wallet. Most of the grocery stores have key tags as well so no reason to carry them in my wallet.

haha it'll be interesting to see some of the random stuff people have.

            I've got:
            - Military ID card
            - Japan (SOFA) driver's license & Gov't vehicle driver's license
            - 4 x credit/debit cards: (formerly) Charles Schwab CC, PenFed CC, USAA debit, Gov't travel CC
            - Unit emergency contact info card & ...ummm... a "who to call/where to go if the base is attacked" reference card (don't ask)
            - "Liberty card" (relates to my base's curfew)
            - Unit "round metal object"
            - Insurance info card
            - Temple recommend (only a certain crowd might recognize this)
            - Subway Customer Appreciation card (x2), currently good for 1.375 6-inch sandwiches

AAANNNDDD..... because all of that makes for a fat enough wallet as it is, I keep a separate (old/"retired") wallet that stays home, which has:
            - More credit/debit cards (USAA CC, Discover CC, Schwab Debit, PenFed ATM)
            - USAA contact info card
            - Oregon Driver's license
            - Eagle Scout card
            - Basic & Advanced SCUBA dive certification cards
            - DoD Bone Marrow Program donor card
            - Photos

Actually, that's true for many places. It is usually filed by your phone number. At one local supermarket, for example, I just type my number into the keypad at the register where you swipe your credit/debit card. I never carry that card.

                  Drivers license
Health insurance card (auto is in glove box)
                  Debit card
                  library card
                  Kohl's cc
                  Target cc
                  AARP card
                  Entenmann's Outlet punch card

Other cc & store gift cards are in other zip pouches in my purse on an as needed basis. I carry Target & Kohl's regularly because those places are often spur of the moment stops.

Most times before I leave the house I customize the contents of my wallet according to where I'm going. I try to carry as little as possible.

                    Right now I have:

                    Driver's license
                    Debit card
                    $0.37 in coins
                    $20 bill

The bill is there so that I can break it to smaller bills. I want to add that bit to my "power is out all over town" little cash pool.
