  • Closing credit card account

I recently opened a Capitol One credit card, looking to transfer the balance from my first credit card. On the day I get my new card, there are messages on my home machine saying that they need to talk to me ASAP about possible fraudulent activities. Mind you, I did not give them my home phone # and I've not activated the card yet. Also, I did a little digging on Capitol One cards and it seems nothing but complaints about Capitol One service.

My question is, should I have them close the acct before I even activate the card? Will this hurt my score since I've not activated the card?

I've used a Cap One card for about 10 years and I've never had a problem with their service. They do tend to be a bit hypersensitive when it comes to fraud protection, which can be annoying at times.

I wouldn't close the card since you were just approved for it. You might as well give them a chance and keep the available credit, which should help improve your CU ratio and overall FiCO scores.

don't close the account yet. Perhaps the company is doing everything they can just to solve the problem.

IIRC, if you don't activate it the bank closes the account.
