I have a gas stove from about 1950 ish, I was wondering if the efficiancy of a new stove would be worth the cost? I am kinda fond of the old stove cause its pretty durable and they just dont make stuff like that anymore. I especially like the durable finish, like baked enamel i think. Cause ,my kids are slobs and i dont worry about their messes harming it. but with all my other efficient improvements the gas bill is still kinda high......

is it worth it to replace gas stove?

The stove probably isn't the culprit of a high gas bill unless you cook more than Emeril or Rachael Ray. An old stove sounds cool. It would make a nice conversation piece and isn't something that you see everyday. I would keep it. The furnace, the water heater, old windows, and inadequate insulation contribute more to a high gas bill than a stove will.Brian

There are only two reasons I could think of to replace the old stove and neither of them have to do with the gas bill. (a) If you live in earthquake land like I do, electronic ignition is safer than old-fashioned pilot lights. (b) the bells and whistles on modern stoves make some things (like cleaning them) easier.
If the most major concern is your gas bill, keep the old stove.

well i already have new furnace, tankless heater, insulation (some) and some new windows. I have a small (804 sq ft ) house and the bill is 237/mo. I guess I may have to close off the sliding glass door to the deck where i let the dogs out. hmmm i dont really want to do that cause the back is fenced and the front isnt.... I gotta though

That is high. My house is 1800 sq ft and my bill is around $75 a month. What is your thermostat set to? I keep mine around 68.Originally posted by irmanator View Postwell i already have new furnace, tankless heater, insulation (some) and some new windows. $237/mo is quite high for that size house. My target areas would be the insulation and windows. Getting the house fully insulated and putting new windows in the rest of the house is likely to go a long way toward reducing your gas bill. If you're losing heat through the windows and uninsulated walls your furnace has to work overtime to maintain the temperature in the house (even if it's set to 68 degrees).Originally posted by irmanator View Postwell i already have new furnace, tankless heater, insulation (some) and some new windows.
