  • NOT ordering checks from my bank...Am I protected?

So, it took me about 6 years to go through just one box of checks. I write only 1 check per month, maximum 2 checks per month.

I want to get checks from my big bank. But the designs I like are 25 bucks for a single box?!?! That may not include the actual shipping price. I can get some check for $12 that are plain, but I am not sure if the shipping is extra. I think that it is.

Is it safe to use a reputable check printing website? Will I still be protected from fraud if I use an outside vendor to make my checks?

Never buy your checks from the bank. It is a total rip-off. Go with one of the companies that advertises in the Sunday paper or online. I've used them forever and have never had a problem.

The banks charge a fortune. Never get cheques through them (unless they are offered free. I'm not sure if they are in the US (we're in Canada), but we order all our business cheques through ASAP online. Great prices and very fast delivery. They also do personal cheques too, but I don't use them for those since my bank offers them free.

My bank wants like $25 bucks for the box (single) of checks that I want. I can go to walmart and get them for like $12, including shipping. I just wonder that if someone at walmart uses my info inappropriately, am i protected from fraud?

Also, will the check be able to be cashed properly? Sorry, I don't write checks often, so I just want to make sure that if I go with an outside vendor, that my bank won't deny using my check.

You will have no problem using the checks.

As for fraud, that can happen at the bank just as easily as it could happen anywhere else, and it is very unlikely no matter what. There is no difference due to where you buy your checks.

You can write your checks on a dirty napkin if you want. Its still legal tender, and a financial institution must honor it if you have a checking account with them.

I've never bought checks from my bank in 20 years - never an issue!

After MUCH research I have found that Walmart.com is the cheapest place to buy checks. last time I bought (several years) the simple, plain but colored checks were $6/200 + cheap shipping.

This is ONLY available online-No store pickup or ordering.

We used to buy 2 boxes thus saving more money, but alot can happen until those run out. A bank can be sold or you could go to another bank. Most banks will give you your first checks free. Right now I'm using checks that have gone through 3 or 4 name changes. If the bank doesn't want you to use them, they will at their own charge - send new ones with their correct name on it. All you have to worry about is the routing number and your account number.

                  Online is a lot cheaper.

                    Here's a hint:

The banks don't even print their own customers checks! They have a relationship with a check supplier that they order from.

So if the bank orders them from somewhere else, why can't you?

I've used checksthemail.com for years. Highly recommend them.

I was able to get the bank to pay for my checks. It is usually up to the branch. Give them a reason to pay for it.
