  • A small victory

Just wanted to share this little victory with some folks I know would appreciate it. I had purchased 2 tickets to South America earlier this year for a trip over Christmastime. I got an amazing deal, $500 each. Well, in September I had a vacation that ended up costing a little more than expected. Then, about a week after we returned, our cat got sick and ended up having about $4000 in surgery. Unfortunately, he didn't make it.

Anyhow, we decided that even though we had already sunk $1000 into plane tickets, we didn't need to spend another couple thousand on hotels, food, etc. We were prepared to eat the cost, and chalk it up as a learning experience.

Well, as it turns out, one of the airlines that I was flying on as part of my itinerary went out of business. A couple months ago I tried to use this as a reason to get my whole reservation refunded. The company that booked the tickets said they couldn't do that, they could only refund the portion of the ticket that was cancelled. I decided to do nothing at that time, and try again as the trip got closer. Lo and behold, I called again today and was able to get the full price of both tickets refunded!

Ever since the cat died we've tried to cut back and be more careful with our money, but it was kinda hanging over my head that here was $1000 going out the window. It feels really good to have that cleared up. Now I can use that money for teeth cleaings for two of my dogs. Let me tell you, it's hard and expensive having old guys as pets. I love 'em so stinkin' much though!

      $4000 for cat's surgery. wow!

Good job on getting that $1000 from airline.

How much does it cost for a dog's teeth cleaning?

Well, it wasn't exactly a $4000 surgery. It was a week in the hospital with what started as something manageable, and not that expensive, and kept snowballing. The surgery itself was maybe $1000. We are still paying off the bill, and don't even have the cat anymore

The teeth cleanings are ending up costing about $500 each, including bloodwork and extractions. Unfortunately there is no avoiding them at this point, both the old guys have infected teeth.

The vet suggested giving them beef femur bones to chew on. He says if they chew them regularly, they may never need another cleaning again after this. Fingers crossed!
